Ozone therapy in patients older than 12 years with recurrent aphthous stomatitis

Background: ozone therapy has been successfully used in the treatment of pulpitis, periodontitis, aphtha, ulcers, denture-related stomatitis, infected root canals, as well as in the disinfection of cavities during surgery and postoperative care, just to mention some examples.Objective: to assess the effectiveness of Oleozón in the treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis, in patients older than 12 years of age who visited the emergency department of dentistry of the “Guillermo Tejas Silva” Teaching Policlinic, from February to December 2017.Methods: a therapeutic intervention was carried out in a sample of 32 patients with the characteristics declared in the objective, at the place and during the period herein mentioned. The sample was randomly distributed in two groups: the control group with a conventional treatment and the study group that underwent treatment with Oleozón. Both groups received the indications of not taking vitamins E and C during the treatment period. The patients were assessed on the third, fifth and seventh days.Results: there was a higher presence of the female sex (62,5 %). According to the affected anatomic region, in both groups the lesions on the labial mucosa and on the alveolar mucosa prevailed. On the third day of treatment half of the study group had progressed favorably, and only 12,5 % of the control group. At the end, 93,7 % of the study group and 68,7 % of the control group were healed. No adverse reactions related to the treatment were reported.Conclusions: ozone therapy was effective for the treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis in the studied sample of patients.</p

Percepción de estudiantes, profesores y población acerca del proceso formativo de estomatólogos en Las Tunas

Fundamento: la búsqueda de la excelencia en la educación superior es una exigencia que compromete a todos los componentes del proceso de formación de los futuros profesionales.Objetivo: valorar elementos en el desarrollo del proceso formativo de la carrera de Estomatología en la provincia Las Tunas, a partir de las opiniones de estudiantes, profesores y población atendida.Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal, en la provincia Las Tunas, durante el año 2019. La población de estudio estuvo conformada por 110 estudiantes, 50 profesores y 100 pacientes atendidos por los estudiantes y profesores. Se procedió mediante la revisión documental y aplicación de encuestas a toda la población del estudio.Resultados: en cuanto a las dificultades que afectan el proceso docente, prevalecen las irregularidades en el abastecimiento de instrumentales y materiales, según criterios de los educandos (55,4 %) y la insuficiente producción científica, reconocida por los educadores (70 %). Los rasgos que mejor caracterizan a los estudiantes son el humanismo, la disciplina y la responsabilidad, con un 91,5 %, 88,1 % y 81,9 %, respectivamente. Se pudo constatar una elevada satisfacción con el desarrollo del proceso docente educativo en general (93,8 %). El 95 % de la población considera buena la atención estomatológica que brindan profesores y estudiantes.Conclusiones: existe una percepción positiva acerca del proceso formativo de estomatólogos en Las Tunas.</p
