Metaheuristic multiobjective optimization in steel welds

    No full text
Strength and toughness of steel welds have always been considered as inversely related. This contradicting combination of these properties has made it difficult for designers to achieve an optimum combination. Optimizing the control variables like chemistry and process parameters for obtaining highest combination of strength and toughness is the target of this research. Nondominated Sorting Genetic Algorithms (NSGA) was used to arrive at the pareto-front. It was observed that for the interpass temperatures 150, 200, and 250°C the manganese concentration was decreased while increasing the nickel concentrations. However, for interpass temperatures greater than 200°C, the concentration of manganese was increased with decrease in nickel concentration, as interpass temperatures raised. An empirical relation between the martensite start temperatures and the interpass temperature was derived to highlight how the algorithm has moved the chemistry to obtain the optimum combination of strength and toughness

Deploying CPU load balancing in the Linux cluster using non-repetitive CPU selection

Maintaining load balancing in a computingcluster is an evident problem in distributed systems andresearch in this field is not new. The challenges in designing theload balancing algorithms are immense. This paper lists some ofthose challenges in the design of CPU load balancing algorithmand provides solutions to some of them. The algorithmconsiders one node in the cluster as the Master Server andanother as the Load Balancer. The master server maintains theCPU and IP information of each machine. The nodes in thecluster send their CPU status and IP information to the masterserver after every 30 seconds. The implementation solves“readers-writers” problem exclusively using sockets. If anumber of requests are sent before the next central databaseupdate, the load balancer selects other less busy nodes in thecluster. This ensures that all nodes are allocated with the newtasks coming from remote systems, thereby maintaining a loadbalance among the CPUs. This implementation is highly faulttolerant and reliable, guaranteeing a high probability of taskcompletion. Results show that this scheme handles taskallocation in much optimized way and with fewer overheads. The implementation can handle CPUs ranging in numbers from1 to 255.Index Terms—C

Effect of 30 T magnetic field on transformations in a novel bainitic steel

    No full text
The continuous cooling transformation characteristics of novel bainitic steels have been studied, both under ordinary conditionsand whilst subjected to a 30 T magnetic field. The magnetic field has been found to completely change the microstructure obtained, from a mixture of bainite and martensite to one containing an incredibly fine pearlite with an interlamellar spacing of about 50 nm.As a consequence, the pearlite is found to be much harder than any other examples found in the published literature
