Addiction At the Biennale of Venice

In this paper we analyse the socio-economic characteristics (e.g. age, gender, education, nationality) associated with the probability of subscribing to an art review, among visitors of the Visual Arts Biennale of Venice taking into account the heterogeneity of the data. The analysis uses a data set from a questionnaire given in Venice in 2003 to ascertain the key characteristics of the Biennale visitors, (Bernardi, Pizzi and Vecco, 2004). A Bayesian random parameter logit model is used with Gibbs sampling to verify the hypothesis that subscribing to an art review given that the individual visits the Biennale, defines addiction to visual arts. This model outperforms the standard logit model since it takes into account the unobserved heterogeneity of the sample data. Some policy implications are presented.Culture, Biennale of Venice, Mixed Logit model, and policy implications.

This paper presents an emerging topography of the contemporary art system in Mainland China. To this purpose, the authors analyse the evolution of cultural policies and the diffusion of contemporary art through the exhibitions projects organised by public and private museums. Clearly, there is a concomitance of policies of economic and cultural liberalisation with the change of the informal and underground status of avant-garde artistic practices into institutional practices backed by the State and the private sector. The result is the multiplication of numerous public and private museums on the national territory particularly evident in the period of 2006-2015. Specifically, the authors analyse the relationship between Chinese artists and exhibitions with the support of a social network analysis using the data collected from a Chinese exhibit platform, covering the period of 1989-2015. By presenting the evolution of the concept of contemporary art, the authors propose a first mapping of the non-commercial dimension of the contemporary art system in Mainland China

Assessing pro-environmental behaviors and implications for integrated conservation in protected areas: A study of visitors and entrepreneurs in the Asinara National Park, Italy

Understanding pro-environmental behaviors in protected areas is vital for effective resource management, visitor management, infrastructure development, and conservation strategies. Therefore, this study aims to assess environmentally friendly practices and behaviors (eco-practices) of visitors (demand side) and entrepreneurs and tour operators (supply side) to explore the implications for the long-term sustainability of the protected area. The study utilizes the shared value framework and the value-belief-norm theory extended to environmentalism to investigate the relevant values for pro-environmental behaviors. The paper focuses on the Asinara National Park in Italy. It employs a partial least squares-structural equation model to analyze the pro-environmental behavior and willingness to commit to conservation goals. The findings reveal that visitors demonstrate a willingness to commit to eco-practices in a protected area based upon non-extractive cultural ecosystem services (path coefficient = 0.196*) and accept earmarked taxation (path coefficient = 0.254***), which indicates their loyalty and satisfaction with their visit. On the other hand, entrepreneurs are motivated by internally adopted ecological practices (path coefficient = 0.509***) and altruistic reasons (path coefficient = 0.377**). In conclusion, the study emphasizes aligning service and facility supply with demand and the mission of protected areas to achieve balanced and sustainable resource management. By understanding and promoting pro-environmental behaviors, long-term resilience can be ensured for protected areas, benefiting both the environment and the visitors. Quali strumenti giuridici statali e regionali per le comunit\ue0 patrimoniali?

The Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (Faro Convention, 2005) recognizes a central role to heritage communities in the process of identification, study, interpretation, protection, conservation and presentation of the cultural heritage. As a signatory State of the Convention (signed on 27th February 2013, still waiting for ratification), Italy has in any case to ensure its contribution to the safeguarding of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage by adequate policies. Currently, a State law providing a general regulation of the participation of civil society to the protection and the enhancement of cultural heritage in the Italian legal system has not been adopted yet. Nevertheless, communities, groups and individuals have a wide range of instruments available, which can be drawn by an accurate interpretation of the Constitution and of many State and regional laws. In the long run, the persistent lack of common rules on this subject may be a source of uncertainty, capable of weakening, instead of strengthening, the role of heritage communities, in contrast with the principles of the Faro Convention

This paper focuses on three main concepts: creativity, cultural and creative industries in order to better understand their impact on contemporary cities. We decided to adopt a historic perspective showing these concepts in order to catch the evolution and the different nuances attributed to and to clear the misunderstandings of the application of the concept of creative and cultural industries. The concept of creativity has been analysed and the question of how we can measure creativity has been developed, showing an overview of different existing indexes which can potentially contribute to benchmarking the creative potential of a country.creative industries, creative cities, cultural industries, cultural cities, Paris, contemporary art, culture, creativity, urban development,

Assessing the validity of cultural policy typologies for Central-Eastern European countries

Cultural policy typologies are a widely discussed topic in cultural policy research, though only a few typologies have been developed so far. The aim of this paper is to analyze existing cultural policy typologies for European countries and contextualize them for Central-Eastern European countries with a focus on cultural economies. Based on existing indicators on national and international levels to compare these assumed typologies, we use Bayesian hierarchical cluster analysis supported by spike and slab empirical priors. The article focuses specifically on four Central-Eastern European countries: Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Results reveal several inconsistencies in the existing typologies and a strong common cluster of Eastern European countries in terms of cultural policy and cultural economic characteristics. We sketch out a new cultural policy model typology based on empirical evidence on cultural economies
