Integrating Environmental Issues Into Corporate Strategy: A Catalyst for Radical Organizational Innovation
This paper presents the results of a study conducted in manufacturing firms operating in the electrical and electronic sectors in Quebec. It investigates the extent to which environmental concerns are integrated into corporate strategy and the entire product development stages. Special attention is paid to the underlying decision process and the benefits derived from being green .
Technological Penetration and Cumulative Benefits in SMEs
The relative importance of the benefits derived from the adoption of computer-based administrative and production applications depends to a large extent on the level of technological penetration attained by a particular firm. This evolutionary perspective is investigated in an empirical study carried out in manufacturing firms operating in one specific sector of industrial activity.
Incentive Effects on Risk Attitude in Small Probability Prospects
Most studies on the role of incentives on risk attitude report data obtained from within-subject experimental investigations. This may however raise an issue of sequentiality of effects as later choices may be influenced by earlier ones. This paper reports instead between-subject results on the effect of monetary stakes on risk attitudes for small probability prospects in a laboratory experiment. Under low stakes, we find the typical risk seeking behavior for small probabilities predicted by the prospect theory. But under high stakes, we provide some evidence that risk seeking behavior is dramatically reduced. This could suggest that utility is not consistently concave over the outcome space, but rather contains a convex section for very small amounts.Risk attitude; Incentives; Decision; Experiment

A review of âmasculineâ and âfeminineâ attitudes towards music composition of the past fifty years highlights the contributions of Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux and Marcelle DeschĂȘnes to the development of QuĂ©bĂ©cois electroacoustic music. The author re-creates the historical context for the composersâ childhoods, adolescences, and periods of training in Montreal and Paris, and follows this with a discussion of how they negotiated the dominant trends of the 1970s. She then turns to the composersâ roles as pioneers: in their wish to depart from well-trodden paths, Coulombe Saint-Marcoux and DeschĂȘnes turned to new technological tools that would allow them to express a new artistic sensibility. From this perspective, they should be considered the âsherpasâ of QuĂ©bĂ©cois electroacoustic music

The celebration of Quebec Cityâs 400th anniversary in 2008 emerges from a long tradition of celebrations illustrating conïŹicts arising from the representation of history, conïŹicts between high (scholar) and low (popular) culture, between Church and State. If the State has focussed on reminding us of Champlainâs role in the founding of the city and the French-Canadian civilization, the Church has always claimed the importance of Mgr Laval in the development of the young colony. In studying the role music played in ceremonies celebrating Quebec City between 1859 and 1959, a clear picture emerges : the impossibility to separate Church and State, so important in the founding of Quebec City, but also how they complement each other and how the programming of music not only reïŹects this complementarity but also the Zeitgeist. If operas arias sung by American artists were so much heard during the 19th century, local musicians and singers were gradually called on in celebrations, up to the point where ultimately, works by young composers from the region of Quebec City were part of the music programming. If the memory of Champlain is closely linked with that of Mgr Laval, their reciprocal commemoration initiated musical events that were diïŹerent but complementary where folk music and songs were heard along with works of composers
