Review of The Oxford Handbook of Happiness

The Oxford Handbook of Happiness is the most comprehensive single volume on the subject of happiness. This long-anticipated landmark collection, along with the similarly ambitious Encyclopedia of Quality of Life Research (A. Michalos, ed. 2013, Springer) shows happiness scholarship coming of age and spreading outward into new themes and disciplines as well as forward into policy and practice. The book takes a broad definition of happiness and its contents span positive psychology and interdisciplinary (but psychology-focused) happiness studies. On the whole, the handbook is a remarkable achievement in that it covers most of the basic contemporary knowledge about happiness as well as giving glimpses of more advanced and specific findings

Material docent en format digital per a assignatures d'experimentació en química

En aquesta comunicació es presenta un projecte elaborat arran de l’interès mostrat per un grup de professorat en disposar de material audiovisual propi i comú per a assignatures experimentals de química de diferents titulacions impartides per diferents centres de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Els autors d’aquest treball pertanyen al Grup de Recursos per a la Didàctica de la Química (GReDiQ), integrat en el projecte RIMA (http://www.upc.edu/rima) de l’Institut de Ciències de l’Educació de la UPC. L’elaboració de material audiovisual digital constitueix un dels objectius principals plantejats pel GReDiQ i pretén generar tant un material de suport per a les activitats pre-laboratorio, com un element motivador i que faciliti l’aprenentatge de l’alumnat en les sessions de laboratori de les matèries de Química i Enginyeria química, que apareixen com assignatures de formació bàsica en gairebé tots els plans d’estudi dels nous Graus d’Enginyeria que s’ estan implantant a la UPC. La utilització del material audiovisual digital possibilita que l’alumnat prengui consciència de les activitats de laboratori, així com dels hàbits bàsics de manipulació i seguretat en el laboratori, del fonament d’operacions bàsiques o instrumentació a utilitzar.Peer Reviewe

GREDIQ-RIMA: The evolution of a teaching project of experimentation in chemistry

Authors of this project belong to the Resources Chemistry Teaching Group (GReDiQ) involved in RIMA (Research and innovation in learning methodologies). The audiovisual and multimedia material productions realized have been grouped into three themes: Basic Techniques of Experimentation in Chemistry, Safety in Chemistry Laboratories and Advanced Techniques of Experimentation in Chemistry. Gestió de projectes experimentals al laboratori

Els plans d’estudi d'Enginyeria Química tenen assignatures troncals exclusivament de laboratori. Tot i així, la visió tradicional de la docència al laboratori continua essent la d’unes pràctiques complementàries a les assignatures teòriques. Tanmateix, es pot dotar aquestes assignatures d'un discurs propi basat en l’experimentació com a mètode i aprofitar el fet que el laboratori, a diferència de l'aula, és un escenari idoni per a l’aprenentatge i desenvolupament de competències, actituds i aptituds més enllà de la repetició del procés de mesura i del coneixement dels fonaments fisicoquímics dels fenòmens i processos que s’estudien. Des de fa més de deu anys l’Experimentació en Enginyeria Química de l’EUETIB s’ha plantejat com un procés de millora continua vers aquest objectiu. La formulació d’un pla estratègic que en gestionava la transformació va ser premiada el 2007 i actualment incorpora de manera explícita una sèrie de jocs de rol al laboratori orientats a l’aprenentatge de competències en l’àmbit de l’aplicació del mètode científic, la resolució de problemes, la gestió de projectes, la gestió de la qualitat i la millora contínua, la gestió de la seguretat i el medi ambient, la coavaluació i l’avaluació per a l’aprenentatge i la comunicació i el llenguatge.Peer Reviewe

The positive role of hope on the relationship between loneliness and unhappy conditions in Hungarian young adults: How pathways thinking matters!

In this study, we examined loneliness and hope components as predictors of unhappy conditions (viz., anxious symptoms, depressive symptoms, & suicidal ideation) in young adults. The sample was comprised of 489 Hungarian college students. Results of conducting hierarchical regression analyses indicated that loneliness and hope pathways (but not hope agency) were important unique predictors of anxious symptoms, depressive symptoms, and suicidal ideation. Moreover, in part, consistent with the notion that hope might buffer the negative effects of loneliness on unhappy conditions, evidence for a significant Loneliness × Hope Pathways interaction effect in predicting each of the three indices of unhappy conditions was found. In contrast, the Loneliness × Hope Agency interaction effect was not found to be significant. Some implications of the present findings for the study and treatment of unhappy conditions in adults are discussed
