    A Reliable Low-area Low-power PUF-based Key Generator

    This paper reports the implementation of a lowarea low-power 128-bit PUF-based key generation module which exploits a novel Two-Stage IDentification (TSID) cell showing a higher noise immunity then a standard SRAM cell. In addition, the pre-selection technique introduced in [1] is applied. This results in a stable PUF response in spite of process and environmental variations thus requiring a low cost error correction algorithm in order to generate a reliable key. The adopted PUF cell array includes 1056 cells and shows a power consumption per bit of 4:2 W at 100MHz with an area per bit of 2:4 m2. In order to evaluate reliability and unpredictability of the generated key, extensive tests have been performed both on the raw PUF data and on the final key. The raw PUF data after pre-selection show a worst case intra-chip Hamming distance below 0:7%. After a total of more than 5 109 key reconstructions, no single fail has been detected

    Efficient and Accurate Modeling of Conformational Transitions in Proteins: The Case of c-Src Kinase

    The theoretical computational modeling of large conformational transitions occurring in biomolecules still represents a challenge. Here, we present an accurate "in silico" description of the activation and deactivation mechanisms of human c-Src kinases, a fundamental process regulating several crucial cell functions. Our results clearly show that by applying an efficient and automated algorithm able to drive the molecular dynamics (MD) sampling along the pathway between the two c-Src conformational states - the active state and the inactive state - it is possible to accurately describe, at reduced computational costs, the molecular mechanism underlying these large conformational rearrangements. This procedure, combining the MD simulations with the sampling along the well-defined principal motions connecting the two conformational states, allows to provide a description well beyond the present computational limits, and it is easily applicable to different systems where the structures of both the initial and final states are known

    Disentangling age and metallicity in distant unresolved stellar systems

    We present some results of an observational and theoretical study on unresolved stellar systems based on the Surface Brightness Fluctuations (SBF) technique. It is shown that SBF magnitudes are a valuable tracer of stellar population properties, and a reliable distance indicator. SBF magnitudes, SBF-colors, and SBF-gradients can help to constrain within relatively narrow limits the metallicity and age of the dominant stellar component in distant stellar systems, especially if coupled with other spectro-photometric indicators.Comment: A contributed paper to the Cefalu' (Italy) "Probing Stellar Populations out to the Distant Universe", 4 pages.     Smart City and Metropolitan Area: the Energy Component in the Case Studies of Genoa and Naples

    The Smart City model is now considered one of the opportunities to rethink cities and, in general, the development of urban communities. One of the most relevant themes in the application of the Smart City paradigm is the city/energy relationship and Italian cities are fielding several actions to effectively cope with the energy issues. Nevertheless, actions and projects are often uncritically promoted as ‘smart’, but actually lack innovative contents and methods. Therefore, the aim of this research, of which we present the first findings, is the drafting of a survey, tested through field analysis, of the experimentations of Italian metropolitan areas on the Smart City topic. The in-depth analysis of two case studies, Genoa and Naples, allowed us to compare the actual state of the two cities. We have that they have undertaken a common path in the implementation of strategies to try to transform themselves into Smart Cities, focusing especially on the energy aspects

    Longitudinal and Transversal Driver Behaviour with Innovative Horizontal Markings Along Curved Motorway On Ramps and Terminals

    The manuscript presents a driving simulation study on the effectiveness of two innovative horizontal marking designs (in comparison with the conventional marking) along acceleration ramps and reverse and continue terminals on curved motorway sections. Longitudinal and transversal behavioural data were collected from forty-eight test drivers in response to variations in marking type, lighting conditions, and traffic-flow along the motorway. Although the innovative markings did not have a significant impact on speeds along continue terminals, they did have an impact on the lane gap and the standard deviation of lateral positions. Along the reverse terminal design type, their impact was evident on all the investigated longitudinal and transversal outcomes. This study proved that the perceptual techniques used by drivers engaged in speed and trajectory management along curved terminals are effective in promoting better driving performances

    Advances on GRB as cosmological tools

    Several interesting correlations among Gamma Ray Bursts (GRB) prompt and afterglow properties have been found in the recent years. Some of these correlations have been proposed also to standardize GRB energetics to use them as standard candles in constraining the expansion history of the universe up to z>6. However, given the still unexplained nature of most of these correlations, only the less scattered correlations can be used for constraining the cosmological parameters. The updated E_peak-E_gamma correlation is presented. Caveats of alternative methods of standardizing GRB energetics are discussed.Comment: 8 parges, AIP conf. proc.
