Outcomes and process evaluation of a cluster-randomised participatory organisational intervention among German healthcare workers
Background
In the present investigation the results of the outcome and process evaluation of a participatory workplace intervention are reported. The intervention aimed to increase the workers’ self-assessed physical and mental work ability.
Methods
The intervention was a two-arm, cluster-randomised trial with healthcare workers in 10 hospitals and one elderly care centre in Germany. Outcome data on workers were collected in questionnaires at baseline, and two follow-ups between 2019 and 2021. The intervention consisted of interviews and workshops, in which employees proposed measures for reducing the physical and psychosocial load and strengthening resources at work. Outcome data were analysed with linear-mixed regression models. The process evaluation was based on the thematic criteria proposed in previous literature and the collection of the type of intervention measures and their implementation status.
Results
The regression analysis did not provide evidence of treatment differences or reductions of psychosocial load in the intervention wards. The process evaluation suggested that the measures did not address specifically the self-assessed work ability. In addition, there was no indication that the intervention measures were causally related to the intended goals.
Conclusions
The planning and implementation of organisational interventions require a careful consideration of the definition of intervention goals, the theoretical rationale of the intervention and a project-oriented action plan during the delivery phase
Il percorso di un pensiero: Pascal in Italia. Prime traduzioni ed edizioni delle Lettres Provinciales tra XVII e XVIII secolo
The genealogy of the Italian translations of Pascal’s works – both in manuscript and print – and of his Lettres Provinciales in particular is still an unexplored research field. An Italian translation of the Provinciales was published in 1684 in a four-language edition. The volume contained the French original text, the Latin version by Pierre Nicole, the Spanish version, and the Italian one, translated by Cosimo Brunetti. In 1659, in Paris, he started the Italian translation of the Lettres, which was published in the multilingual volume almost twenty years later. In the Library of Genoa University there is a manuscript dating back to the XVII century (A. v. 16), that contains an Italian translation of the Lettres Provinciales which is significantly different from Brunetti’s version. Therefore, not only does the present study focus on an obscure codex, it also strongly argues that such a text is the first Italian translation, which can be considered independent from Brunetti’s manuscript

Vestibular Syncope and Acute Peripheral Vestibular Deficit: A Case Report
Vestibular syncope is a rare condition in which vertigo may cause syncopal attacks; however, the term has been associated with confusion because it has been ascribed to completely different vestibular and neurological conditions, from dizziness to Menière disease (MD), to the neurovegetative symptoms in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and central vertebrobasilar hyperfusion. A 75-year-old woman with vasodepressive vasovagal syncope, confirmed by a tilt test with trinitrine administration, was referred for an audiological and vestibular assessment showing an acute unilateral peripheral vestibular deficit on the right side. The diagnosis is peripheral acute vestibular deficits. Interventions and outcomes are vestibular treatment and rehabilitation. The patient's vasovagal symptoms immediately improved and were completely resolved. Peripheral vestibular deficits might also trigger syncopal episodes and must be considered and studied by a complete audiological and vestibular evaluation. By restoring the peripheral vestibular function of the right labyrinth after vestibular treatment, a complete long-term resolution of multiple vasovagal syncopal episodes was observed together with normalization of the tilt test
