    A Method to Find Community Structures Based on Information Centrality

    Community structures are an important feature of many social, biological and technological networks. Here we study a variation on the method for detecting such communities proposed by Girvan and Newman and based on the idea of using centrality measures to define the community boundaries (M. Girvan and M. E. J. Newman, Community structure in social and biological networks Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 99, 7821-7826 (2002)). We develop an algorithm of hierarchical clustering that consists in finding and removing iteratively the edge with the highest information centrality. We test the algorithm on computer generated and real-world networks whose community structure is already known or has been studied by means of other methods. We show that our algorithm, although it runs to completion in a time O(n^4), is very effective especially when the communities are very mixed and hardly detectable by the other methods.Comment: 13 pages, 13 figures.     A New species of Tripartiella (Ciliophora: Trichodinidae) from Aequidens tetramerus (Perciformes: Cichlidae) in north Brazil.

    A new species of Tripartiella is described from the gills of the wild saddle cichlid Aequidens tetramerus in north Brazil. Wet smears of skin and gills of examined fish were air-dried at room temperature and impregnated with Klein?s dry silver method for examination of the adhesive disc?s structures and denticles. Total prevalence of parasitism was 65%. This ciliate is characterized as a small-sized trichodinid, body diameter 37.03 ± 4.9 μm, adhesive disc 30.50 ± 2.71 μm, denticulate ring 13.28 ± 0.8 μm and 24 ± 2.0 denticles. Taxonomic and morphometric data for the new species are discussed

    Acceptability with general orderings

    We present a new approach to termination analysis of logic programs. The essence of the approach is that we make use of general orderings (instead of level mappings), like it is done in transformational approaches to logic program termination analysis, but we apply these orderings directly to the logic program and not to the term-rewrite system obtained through some transformation. We define some variants of acceptability, based on general orderings, and show how they are equivalent to LD-termination. We develop a demand driven, constraint-based approach to verify these acceptability-variants. The advantage of the approach over standard acceptability is that in some cases, where complex level mappings are needed, fairly simple orderings may be easily generated.     Fractional order hereditariness of knee human ligament and tendon

    Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is one of the four major ligaments in the knee, playing a critical role in stabilizing the joint. ACL is highly susceptible to injury, overall during sport activities, often precipitating catastrophic long-term joint outcomes. The ideal replacement graft for a torn ACL would restore native anatomy and function to the knee. Most commonly used autograft and allograft, including patellar tendon (P) and hamstring tendon (H) graft, or bioengineered synthetic grafts, may substantially alter the biomechanics of the knee, permitting a return to only moderate physical activities [1]. Main issues are the sub-optimal graft properties [2] and a still incomplete biomechanics characterization [1]. The goal of the present work is to fully characterize and compare the viscoelastic behavior of the ACL and natural/artificial grafts in order to highlight the differences that should be overcome to achieve a successful biomechanical performance and an ideal graft design

    Design of the new electromagnetic measurement system for RFX-mod upgrade

    A major modification of the RFX-mod toroidal load assembly has been decided in order to improve passive MHD control and to minimize the braking torque on the plasma, thus extending the operational space in both RFP and Tokamak configurations. With the removal of the vacuum vessel, the support structure will be modified in order to obtain a new vacuum-tight chamber and the first wall tiles will be directly in front of the passive stabilizing shell inside of it, so increasing both the poloidal cross section and the plasma-shell proximity. This implies the design of a new vacuum fit electromagnetic measurement system. The new local probes will be installed in vacuum onto the copper shell, behind the graphite tiles, and shall operate up to a maximum temperature of 180\ub0C to allow for baking cycles for first wall conditioning. Because of the reduced room available, tri-axial pickup probes have been designed, with the additional advantage of allowing the minimization of alignment errors. The paper describes the detailed design of the new probe set, in particular highlighting advantages and effectiveness of different probe solutions. Preliminary tests carried out on local probe prototypes to characterize their electromagnetic behaviour are also reported
