Solitons in a Baby-Skyrme model with invariance under area preserving diffeomorphisms
We study the properties of soliton solutions in an analog of the Skyrme model
in 2+1 dimensions whose Lagrangian contains the Skyrme term and the mass term,
but no usual kinetic term. The model admits a symmetry under area preserving
diffeomorphisms. We solve the dynamical equations of motion analytically for
the case of spinning isolated baryon type solitons. We take fully into account
the induced deformation of the spinning Skyrmions and the consequent
modification of its moment of inertia to give an analytical example of related
numerical behaviour found by Piette et al.. We solve the equations of motion
also for the case of an infinite, open string, and a closed annular string. In
each case, the solitons are of finite extent, so called "compactons", being
exactly the vacuum outside a compact region. We end with indications on the
scattering of baby-Skyrmions, as well as some considerations as the properties
of solitons on a curved space.Comment: 30 pages, 5 figures, revtex, major modifications, conclusions

New Integrable Sectors in Skyrme and 4-dimensional CP^n Model
The application of a weak integrability concept to the Skyrme and
models in 4 dimensions is investigated. A new integrable subsystem of the
Skyrme model, allowing also for non-holomorphic solutions, is derived. This
procedure can be applied to the massive Skyrme model, as well. Moreover, an
example of a family of chiral Lagrangians providing exact, finite energy
Skyrme-like solitons with arbitrary value of the topological charge, is given.
In the case of models a tower of integrable subsystems is obtained. In
particular, in (2+1) dimensions a one-to-one correspondence between the
standard integrable submodel and the BPS sector is proved. Additionally, it is
shown that weak integrable submodels allow also for non-BPS solutions.
Geometric as well as algebraic interpretations of the integrability conditions
are also given.Comment: 23 page
Negative modes and decay-rate transition
We investigate a relationship between the number of the negative modes around
periodic instanton solution and the type of the decay-rate transition. It is
shown that for the case of first-order decay-rate transition the lowest
positive mode at low energy periodic instanton becomes additional negative mode
at high energy regime, while in the second-order case there is only one
negative mode in the full range of energy. This kind of analysis on the
negative modes makes it possible to derive the criterion for the first-order
transition.Comment: 13 pages, 9 figure
The little skyrmion: new dark matter for little Higgs models
We study skyrmions in the littlest Higgs model and discuss their possible role as dark matter candidates. Stable massive skyrmions can exist in the littlest Higgs model also in absence of an exact parity symmetry, since they carry a conserved topological charge due to the non-trivial third homotopy group of the SU(5)/SO(5) coset. We find a spherically symmetric skyrmion solution in this coset. The effects of gauge fields on the skyrmion solutions are analyzed and found to lead to an upper bound on the skyrmion mass. The relic abundance is in agreement with the observed dark matter density for reasonable parameter choices
