Evaluation of phenotypic stability of cassava clones by AMMI analysis in northwestern Paraná state
High yield stability and adaptability of storage root are highly desirable attributes of cassava clones. Theobjective of this study was therefore to evaluate the effect of the genotype x environment interaction (G x E) and the stability ofcassava clones developed at IAC. A subset of eight cassava genotypes was chosen in trials of storage root yield, arranged ina randomized complete block design with four replications, in two counties (Araruna and Maringá), in the northwesternregion of Paraná State, over five growing seasons (1997-2001). The G x E interaction was evaluated by joint varianceanalysis and stability and adaptability by AMMI analysis. The G x E interaction was significant (P<0.05) for storage rootyield. Results indicated AMMI analysis as an efficient tool for the evaluation of phenotypic adaptability and stability of cassavaclones and IAC 190 as the most promising clone

Efeito de três sistemas de preparo do solo sobre a rentabilidade econômica da mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz) = Effects of three tillage systems on economic profitability of cassava crop (Manihot esculenta Crantz)

The objective of this paper was to evaluate the economicprofitability of cassava crop submitted to the three soil tillage systems during the years1999/2000 to 2002/2003, in Araruna, state of Parana. The treatments consisted of three soiltillage systems: no-tillage, minimum tillage using chiseling, and conventional tillage withmoldboard plow and disking, arranged in a randomized complete blocks with eightreplications. The traction strength and fuel consumption in the soil tillage and in the cassavasowed operation were more required in the conventional tillage system. The conventionaland the minimum tillage systems showed the highest costs for fuel, soil tillage and cassavasowed. They also presented the highest gross income. The greatest net income and the bestbenefit/cost relation were observed in the conventional tillage system, which showed thehighest storage root yield compared to the minimum and to the no-tillage systems

Yield stability of sweet cassava cultivars from Paraná State/
Estabilidade produtiva de cultivares de mandioca-de-mesa coletadas no Estado do Paraná
The objective of this work was to study the storage roots yield and harvest index stability of 14 sweet cassava cultivars collected from Paraná State. Trials were carried out in Maringá (2001/2002 and 2002/2003) and Campo Mourão (2003/2004 and 2004/2005) counties, Northwest region of Paraná State, making a total of four environments. Randomized complete blocks design with three replications was used. The stability was evaluated according methods proposed by Lin e Binns, Eskridge and Annicchiarico. The Caipira, Fécula Branca and Amarela 2 cultivars were the most stable cultivars and showed high storage roots yield and harvest index averages. These cultivars may be a good crop choice in Northwestern region of Paraná State because they also presented low content of HCN, fast cooking time and high level of diseases resistance.O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a estabilidade de produção de raÃzes tuberosas e de Ãndice de colheita de 14 cultivares de mandioca-de-mesa coletadas no Estado do Paraná.
Effect of harvest period on foliage production and dry matter distribution in five cassava cultivars during the second plant cycle
The objective of this work was to study the leaf production pattern and dry matter distribution in cassava during the second plant cycle. The completely randomized experimental design with four replications was used, with five cultivars in the main plots and ten harvest times in the sub-plots. Foliage production was affected by plant age, being higher in hot periods. Leaf blades and petioles dry matter content presented a linear increase due to a progressive decrease in the amount of young leaves and ontogenetic factors. The stems provided, temporarily, carbohydrates to the plant re-growth, delaying the availability and use of storage roots dry matter. The dry matter content in the storage roots was lower during the vegetative and higher during rest period. The storage roots diameter increased considerably when the amount of leaves was higher, indicating the importance of leaf area in the cassava plant production.
