Isolation and Characterization of Bacteria from the Gut of Bombyx mori that Degrade Cellulose, Xylan, Pectin and Starch and Their Impact on Digestion

Bombyx mori L. (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) have been domesticated and widely used for silk production. It feeds on mulberry leaves. Mulberry leaves are mainly composed of pectin, xylan, cellulose and starch. Some of the digestive enzymes that degrade these carbohydrates might be produced by gut bacteria. Eleven isolates were obtained from the digestive tract of B. mori, including the Gram positive Bacillus circulans and Gram negative Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Citrobacter freundii, Serratia liquefaciens, Enterobacter sp., Pseudomonas fluorescens, P. aeruginosa, Aeromonas sp., and Erwinia sp.. Three of these isolates, P. vulgaris, K. pneumoniae, C. freundii, were cellulolytic and xylanolytic, P. fluorescens and Erwinia sp., were pectinolytic and K. pneumoniae degraded starch. Aeromonas sp. was able to utilize the CMcellulose and xylan. S. liquefaciens was able to utilize three polysaccharides including CMcellulose, xylan and pectin. B. circulans was able to utilize all four polysaccharides with different efficacy. The gut of B. mori has an alkaline pH and all of the isolated bacterial strains were found to grow and degrade polysaccharides at alkaline pH. Rohrleitungen und Druckgefaesse aus Schmiedewerkstoffen Abschlussbericht

An increase in operating temperature and pressure of a steam turbine leads to an increase in system efficiency of the power plant. To meet the requirements of high flexibility at low costs, new ferritic steels of higher creep rupture strength are needed. Investigations have been performed for the production and processing of thick walled components in the hot steamline system. The tested materials were T 91/P 91, a new steel included in ASTM/ASME, and a W-modified 12% Cr-steel being under development. The mechanical test results on the various products were all in accordance with the ASTM specifications. An influence of bending on the mechanical properties has not been observed. Creep tests show that also the time-dependent strength values are not influenced by induction bending. Um einen kostenguenstigen Betrieb mit hoher Flexibilitaet zu gewaehrleisten, werden dazu allerdings neue ferritische Staehle mit hoeherer Zeitstandfestigkeit benoetigt. Die Untersuchungen hatten zum Ziel, Fragen der Herstellbarkeit und Weiterverarbeitung von dickwandigen Komponenten aus dem heissdampffuehrenden Rohrleitungssystem zu klaeren. Untersucht wurden der nach ASTM/ASME genormte neue Stahl T 91/P 91, sowie ein W-modifizierter 12% Cr-Stahl, der sich noch in der Entwicklung befindet. Die an den verschiedenen Produkten ermittelten mechanischen Kennwerte erfuellten alle die Vorgaben nach ASTM. Ein Einfluss des Biegens auf die mechanischen Eigenschaften konnte nicht nachgewiesen werden. Das gilt auch fuer die in Zeitstandversuchen ermittelten Langzeitwerte. Demands made on companies for quicker, more flexible and more cost-effective order processing can be met by means of computer-aided work processes which take the needs of the human being into account and are enhanced by supporting technology and based on concepts for computer-integrated production. These concepts have seldom been implemented so far in companies in the capital goods and mechanical engineering sectors with order-related one-off production. Hence, the aim of this project was to develop ergonomic CIM concepts for one-off production, involving staff from various organisational sectors and levels of hierarchy. For this purpose, employees were trained in problem-solving and mediating techniques. After examining and analysing the status quo, subjects for further processing were defined for which in-house working groups were set up. In these groups, various solutions and ideas for the improvement of order processing were discussed. These include the improvement or development of new work processes, methods of work organisation as well as technical and organisational working aids. For example, concepts for integrating upstream activities into the preliminary sectors were elaborated. The human, technical and economic aspects of the various concepts were evaluated by the working groups by means of a method which was developed and modified in the course of the project. The problem-solving and evaluation methods tested in the project are suitable for the processing of all kinds of participant and/or group-oriented tasks and were judged favourably by the staff and superiors involved. Other companies with order-related one-off production can also profit from the experiences described in the report. This paper summarizes the results of systematic investigations into the Reynolds number effects. It is based on performance map measurements carried out on a compressor test rig which was . The good correspondence obtained forms the basis for recommending the application of these simplified relationships for the improvement of centrifugal compressor performance test codes (e.g. ASMEPTC-10 and ISO TC118). Introduction The growth of fields of application for centrifugal compressors, particularly in chemical and petrochemical processes, requires reliable advance calculation of compressor performance, taking into account extreme operating conditions, e.g., very low volume flow rates and very high pressures. In general, it is only possible to transfer model results to various applications if dynamic flow similarity is maintained in the compressor, i.e., if the decisive similarity parameters (including the Reynolds number) are the same. Exact knowledge of the effects of the Reynolds number on the performance characteristics of centrifugal compressor stages is therefore an essential requirement for the correct and dependable design of a centrifugal compressor.
