Diagnostic Difficulties in Woman with Crohn’s Disease, Ascites, and Elevated Value of Serum CA125 Antigen

    Get PDF
Variety of symptoms and atypical clinical course of Crohn’s disease (CD) often create the need for additional diagnostic procedures. In the described case of woman with CD, there was a suspicion of coexistence of ovarian cancer. This issue is particularly important in patients treated with immunosuppressants and biological agents. The discussion focused on the usefulness of CA125 (cancer antigen 125, mucin 16) serum level estimation in clinical practice and draws attention to the possible reasons for the increase of its value which is not associated to ovarian cancer

“Proceedings in Marine Biology” is an international journal publishing original research by graduate students on all aspects of marine biology. Subjects covered include: ecological surveys and population studies of oceanic, coastal and shore communities; physiology and experimental biology; taxonomy, morphology and life history of marine animals and plants. Papers are also published on techniques em - ployed at sea for sampling, recording, capture and observation of marine organisms.Zeitschrift zur Kursabschlussreise der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Deutschland) im Bereich Elektronenmikroskopie.Peer Reviewe

Substrate selection of Asterias rubens differs in laboratory experiments and field observations

Asterias rubens is a widely distributed sea star species. Different preferences regarding substrate type have been reported in the literature for Asterias rubens. In the shallow sublittoral of the northern Skagerrak the population density of Asterias rubens is significantly higher on soft sediment compared to coarse sand and hard substrates. Laboratory experiments on the other hand demonstrate that Asterias rubens significantly chooses hard substrate over soft sediments. This discrepancy demonstrates that factors other than substrate type shape the distribution of Asterias rubens in the field. Some potential factors are discussed. Moreover, the present study shows the usefulness of combining careful field observations with laboratory experiments. Peer Reviewe
