    Work-related stress dimensions among a subsidiary company workers of Iranian oil refining and distribution company

    Introduction Work-related stress and its causes are among the most important issues which can seriously challenge organizational efficiency and employees' health. Different occupational environments and groups have different levels of job stress. The present study aimed to investigate relationships between job stress and its dimensions with three occupational groups (administrative, administrative-operational, and operational) among a subsidiary company workers of Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company. Methods The present study had descriptive-analytical and cross-sectional type and was conducted among 468 out of 503 employees (with entry condition of a year of work experience as well as an official and contractual membership) volunteered to participate in research. Data collection tools included demographic questions and job stress questionnaire as well as human resource department information to determine occupational group of employees. Descriptive statistics, statistical tests, Independent test, and one-way ANOVA in addition to SPSS 21 software were used for data analysis. Results There were significant relationships between age, education levels, work experience and smoking with mean score of job stress (P-value 0.05). Conclusions Exposure to different occupational harmful agents, facing with different safety risks, being far from family, heavy workload, and uncertain employee roles have significantly increased job stress in both operational and executive occupation groups compared to other two occupational groups; hence, there is a positive correlation between high job stress and operational jobs

    Evaluation of heat stress in dry cleaner units:A case study in Qom, Iran

    Background & Aims of the Study: Nowadays, heat stress is one of the most harmful physical agents in workplaces. According to the consequences of heat stress and have no information about it in Qom dry cleaner units, Iran, this study have been designed to evaluate the heat stress among workers of dry cleaner units in Qom province of Iran, in Jul-Aug 2011. Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 113 units of active dry cleaner units. WBGT (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature) index was selected for heat stress evaluation. In order to measure the requisite parameters, WBGT meter made of Casella Company had been used according to ISO 7243. Data had been analyzed according to Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs) with SPSS V.16, using analysis of variance, independent T and LSD tests. Results: The average of WBGT index in Qom dry cleaner units of Iran were 28.98&plusmn;1.64 &deg;C. The average of WBGT index in 66.4% of units was up to 28&deg;C. The average of relative humidity was 42.86%, the average of wet bulb temperature and globe temperature were 25.56&deg;C and 36.72&deg;C, respectively. The findings showed a significant correlation between the average of WBGT index and the standard recommendation level (p<0.0001). In dry cleaner units with less than 10 m2 area, heat stress was higher than other units &nbsp;significantly (p<0.05). Conclusions: Heat stress in many dry cleaner units in Qom, Iran, was more than recommended OELs. Because of wet bulb and globe temperature in units were high value, the most important measures to heat controls, are technical engineering controls such as &nbsp;radiation shield, insulation on boilers and modify the cooling systems

    Preliminary report of Iranian Registry of Alzheimer's disease in Tehran province: A cross‐sectional study in Iran

    Abstract Background and Aims Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the main cause of dementia and over the 55 million people live with dementia worldwide. We aimed to establish the first database called the Iranian Alzheimer's Disease Registry to create a powerful source for future research in the country. In this report, the design and early results of the Iranian Alzheimer's Disease Registry will be described. Methods We performed this multicenter investigation and patients' data including age, sex, educational level, disease status, Mini‐Mental State Examination (MMSE), and Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) from 2018 to 2021 were collected, registered, and analyzed by GraphPad Prism software. Results Totally 200 AD patients were registered in our database. 107 (54%) were women and age of 147 (74%) were over 65. The mean age for men and women was 76.20 ± 8.29 and 76.40 ± 8.83 years, respectively. 132 (66%) were married and 64 (32%) were illiterate. Also, 94 (47%) were in the moderate stage of disease, and 150 (75%) lived at home together with their families. The most frequent neurological comorbidity was psychosis (n = 72, 36%), while hypertension was the most common non‐neurological comorbidity (n = 104, 52%). The GDS score of women in the mild stage (5.23 ± 2.9 vs. 6.9 ± 2.6, p = 0.005) and moderate stage (5.36 ± 2.4 vs. 8.21 ± 2.06, p = <0.001) of the disease was significantly greater than men. In univariate analysis, MMSC score was remarkably associated with stroke (β = −2.25, p = 0.03), psychosis (β = −2.18, p = 0.009), diabetes (β = 3.6, p = <0.001), and hypercholesteremia (β = 1.67, p = 0.05). Also, the MMSE score showed a notable relationship with stroke (β = −2.13, p = 0.05) and diabetes (β = 3.26, p = <0.001) in multivariate analysis. Conclusion Iranian Alzheimer's Disease Registry can provide epidemiological and clinical data to use for purposes such as enhancing the current AD management in clinical centers, filling the gaps in preventative care, and establishing effective monitoring and cure for the disease
