SECONDARY GENERATION OF GASEOUS HONO AND ITS EFFECT ON OUR HEALTH

Establishment of a New Cell Line(MTT-95) Showing Basophilic Differentiation from the Bone Marrow of a Patient with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (M7)
A new myeloid cell line, MTT-95, was established from the bone marrow of a patient with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML, M7). MTT-95 cells differentiate into mature basophilic cells in culture medium with no chemical component or cytokine. Surface phenotypes were as follows: CD11b 79.3%, CD13 92.4%, CD33 99.8%, CD34 87.9%, CD41a 77.6% and HLA-DR 0.3%. MTT-95 cells were strongly positive for glycoprotein IIb/IIIa by immunohistochemical staining and revealed metachromatic granules. MTT-95 cells seem to possess characteristics of both megakaryocytes and basophils. These findings suggest that MTT-95 cells are basophil progenitors. MTT-95 cells might be useful in the study not only of the biological aspects of basophils, but also of the diversities of AML (M7).</p
High serum levels of both carcinoembryonic antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 in a patient with sigmoid colon cancer without metastasis
Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen (CA)19-9 are well known as the most common tumor markers of colon cancer, and levels are used not only for preoperative assessment of extent and outcome of cancer, but also postoperative monitoring of recurrence. We encountered a patient with sigmoid colon cancer showing abnormally high serum levels of CEA (311.1 ng/ml) and CA19-9 (5731.2 U/ml) preoperatively. We could not detect any metastases on computed tomography (CT) or 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/CT. Sigmoidectomy and lymph node dissection were performed. Pathological analysis revealed well-differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma of the sigmoid colon with cancer cells infiltrating to the subserosa, but no lymph node metastases. As of postoperative day 60, serum levels of CEA and CA19-9 were 3.4 ng/ml and 9.2 U/ml, respectively, without any further anti-tumor treatment. This represents a rare case of sigmoid colon cancer with high levels of tumor markers in sera that improved following sigmoidectomy without further anti-cancer treatment
Acute abdomen caused by both acute appendicitis and epididymitis
Acute appendicitis often presents as right lower quadrant (RLQ) pain, severe
tenderness at the point of McBurny or Lanz, and Blumberg’s sign. Scrotal events with appendicitis
are very rare. In our case, a 63-year-old Japanese man presented with severe
RLQ pain and high fever. Physical examination revealed severe tenderness (including
both points of McBurny and Lanz) and Blumberg’s sign. The scrotum was slightly swollen
and showed local heat with severe testicular pain. Abdominal computed tomography
revealed ascites in a pelvic space and the right side of the spermatic cord was swollen.
Emergency operation was performed and the final diagnosis was catarrhal appendicitis
and acute epididymitis. This is the first report of acute appendicitis concomitant with
acute epididymitis
Spectroscopic Observations of the WZ Sge-Type Dwarf Nova GW Librae during the 2007 Superoutburst
We carried out an international spectroscopic observation campaign of the
dwarf nova GW Librae (GW Lib) during the 2007 superoutburst. Our observation
period covered the rising phase of the superoutburst, maximum, slowly decaying
phase (plateau), and long fading tail after the rapid decline from the plateau.
The spectral features dramatically changed during the observations. In the
rising phase, only absorption lines of H, H, and H were
present. Around the maximum, the spectrum showed singly-peaked emission lines
of H, He I 5876, He I 6678, He II 4686, and C III/N III as well as
absorption lines of Balmer components and He I. These emission lines
significantly weakened in the latter part of the plateau phase. In the fading
tail, all the Balmer lines and He I 6678 were in emission, as observed in
quiescence. We find that the center of the H emission component was
mostly stable over the whole orbital phase, being consistent with the low
inclination of the system. Comparing with the observational results of WZ Sge
during the 2001 superoutburst, the same type of stars as GW Lib seen with a
high inclination angle, we interpret that the change of the H profile
before the fading tail phase is attributed to a photoionized region formed at
the outer edge of the accretion disk, irradiated from the white dwarf and inner

A Spectral Study of the Black Hole Candidate XTE J1752-223 in the High/Soft State with MAXI, Suzaku and Swift
We report on the X-ray spectral analysis of the black hole candidate XTE\
J1752--223 in the 2009--2010 outburst, utilizing data obtained with the
MAXI/Gas Slit Camera (GSC), the Swift/XRT, and Suzaku, which work
complementarily. As already reported by Nakahira et al. (2010) MAXI monitored
the source continuously throughout the entire outburst for about eight months.
All the MAXI/GSC energy spectra in the high/soft state lasting for 2 months are
well represented by a multi-color disk plus power-law model. The innermost disk
temperature changed from 0.7 keV to 0.4 keV and the disk flux
decreased by an order of magnitude. Nevertheless, the innermost radius is
constant at 41 km, where is the
source distance in units of 3.5 kpc and the inclination. The multi-color
disk parameters obtained with the MAXI/GSC are consistent with those with the
Swift/XRT and Suzaku. The Suzaku data also suggests a possibility that the disk
emission is slightly Comptonized, which could account for broad iron-K features
reported previously. Assuming that the obtained innermost radius represents the
innermost stable circular orbit for a non-rotating black hole, we estimate the
mass of the black hole to be 5.510.28 , where the correction for the stress-free inner boundary condition
and color hardening factor of 1.7 are taken into account. If the inclination is
less than 49 as suggested from the radio monitoring of transient jets
and the soft-to-hard transition in 2010 April occurred at 1--4% of Eddignton
luminosity, the fitting of the Suzaku spectra with a relativistic
accretion-disk model derives constraints on the mass and the distance to be
3.1--55 and 2.3--22 {\rm kpc}, respectively. This confirms that the
