Pair-breaking in iron-pnictides
The puzzling features of the slopes of the upper critical field at the
critical temperature , , and of the
specific heat jump of iron-pnictides are interpreted as
caused by a strong pair-breaking
Enhancement of Superconductivity in Disordered Films by Parallel Magnetic Field
We show that the superconducting transition temperature T_c(H) of a very thin
highly disordered film with strong spin-orbital scattering can be increased by
parallel magnetic field H. This effect is due to polarization of magnetic
impurity spins which reduces the full exchange scattering rate of electrons;
the largest effect is predicted for spin-1/2 impurities. Moreover, for some
range of magnetic impurity concentrations the phenomenon of {\it
superconductivity induced by magnetic field} is predicted: superconducting
transition temperature T_c(H) is found to be nonzero in the range of magnetic

Superconductor insulator transition in thin films driven by an orbital parallel magnetic field effect
We study theoretically orbital effects of a parallel magnetic field applied
to a disordered superconducting film. We find that the field reduces the phase
stiffness and leads to strong quantum phase fluctuations driving the system
into an insulating behavior. This microscopic model shows that the critical
field decreases with the sheet resistance, in agreement with recent
experimental results. The predictions of this model can be used to discriminate
spin and orbital effects. We find that experiments conducted by A. Johansson
\textit{et al.} are more consistent with the orbital mechanism.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Rumour Processes on N
We study four discrete time stochastic systems on \bbN modeling processes
of rumour spreading. The involved individuals can either have an active or a
passive role, speaking up or asking for the rumour. The appetite in spreading
or hearing the rumour is represented by a set of random variables whose
distributions may depend on the individuals. Our goal is to understand - based
on those random variables distribution - whether the probability of having an
infinite set of individuals knowing the rumour is positive or not
Interface superconductivity in LaNdSrCuO/LaSrCuO bilayers
We identify a distinct superconducting phase at the interface of a
LaNdSrCuO (LNSCO)/LaSrCuO
(LSCO) epitaxial bilayer system using ac screening measurements. A model based
on inter-diffusion of quasiparticles and condensate at the interface yields a
thickness of 25 nm for the interfacial layer. Two-dimensional
superconductivity of the interface layer appears to be governed by
Kosterlitz-Thouless-Berezinskii transition. A parallel magnetic field
suppresses the superconducting transition temperature of this layer with a pair
breaking parameter varying as
Enhanced Coherence of Antinodal Quasiparticles in a Dirty d-wave Superconductor
Recent ARPES experiments show a narrow quasiparticle peak at the gap edge
along the antinodal [1,0]-direction for the overdoped cuprate superconductors.
We show that within weak coupling BCS theory for a d-wave superconductor the
s-wave single-impurity scattering cross section vanishes for energies of the
gap edge. This coherence effect occurs through multiple scattering off the
impurity. For small impurity concentrations the spectral function has a
pronounced increase of the (scattering) lifetime for antinodal quasiparticles
but shows a very broad peak in the nodal direction, in qualitative agreement
with experiment and in strong contrast to the behavior observed in underdoped

Unconventional density wave in CeCoIn_5?
Very recently large Nernst effect and Seebeck effect were observed above the
superconducting transition temperature 2.3K in a heavy fermion superconductor
CeCoIn_5. We shall interpret this large Nernst effect in terms of
unconventional density wave (UDW), which appears around T=18K. Also the
temperature dependence of the Seebeck coefficient below T=18K is described in
terms of UDW. Another hallmark for UDW is the angular dependent
magnetoresistance, which should be readily accessible experimentally.Comment: 4 pages, 7 figure
Cross-Correlating Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation Fluctuations with Redshift Surveys: Detecting the Signature of Gravitational Lensing
Density inhomogeneities along the line-of-sight distort fluctuations in the
cosmic microwave background. Usually, this effect is thought of as a small
second-order effect that mildly alters the statistics of the microwave
background fluctuations. We show that there is a first-order effect that is
potentially observable if we combine microwave background maps with large
redshift surveys. We introduce a new quantity that measures this lensing
effect, , where T is the microwave
background temperature and is the lensing due to matter in the
region probed by the redshift survey. We show that the expected signal is first
order in the gravitational lensing bending angle, , and find that it should be easily detectable, (S/N) 15-35, if
we combine the Microwave Anisotropy Probe satellite and Sloan Digital Sky
Survey data. Measurements of this cross-correlation will directly probe the
``bias'' factor, the relationship between fluctuations in mass and fluctuations

Andreev scattering in nanoscopic junctions at high magnetic fields
We report on the measurement of multiple Andreev resonances at atomic size
point contacts between two superconducting nanostructures of Pb under magnetic
fields higher than the bulk critical field, where superconductivity is
restricted to a mesoscopic region near the contact. The small number of
conduction channels in this type of contacts permits a quantitative comparison
with theory through the whole field range. We discuss in detail the physical
properties of our structure, in which the normal bulk electrodes induce a
proximity effect into the mesoscopic superconducting part.Comment: 4 page
