    Measurements of Charged Current Reactions of Ī½e\nu_e on 12C^{12}C

    Charged Current reactions of Ī½e\nu_e on 12C^{12}C have been studied using a Ī¼+\mu^+ decay-at-rest Ī½e\nu_e beam at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center. The cross section for the exclusive reaction 12C(Ī½e,eāˆ’)12Ng.s.^{12}C(\nu_e,e^-)^{12}N_{g.s.} was measured to be (8.9Ā±0.3Ā±0.9)Ɨ10āˆ’42(8.9\pm0.3\pm0.9)\times10^{-42} cm2^2. The observed energy dependence of the cross section and angular distribution of the outgoing electron agree well with theoretical expectations. Measurements are also presented for inclusive transitions to 12N^{12}N excited states, 12C(Ī½e,eāˆ’)12Nāˆ—^{12}C(\nu_e,e^-)^{12}N^* and compared with theoretical expectations. The measured cross section, (4.3Ā±0.4Ā±0.6)Ɨ10āˆ’42(4.3\pm0.4\pm0.6)\times10^{-42} cm2^2, is somewhat lower than previous measurements and than a continuum random phase approximation calculation.     Combined effects of lipoprotein lipase and apolipoprotein E polymorphisms on serum lipid levels in Serbian population

    Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) gene mutations might be one of genetic factors for the development of hyperlipoproteinemia in apoE2/2 homozygotes and E2 heterozygotes. Fasting serum lipids and analyses of the LPL gene Asn291Ser polymorphism and apolipoprotein (apo) E common polymorphism were performed in 201 healthy subjects. An interaction between the LPL/apoE DNA polymorphisms on serum total cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides (TG) variation was found. Individuals carrying the E2+/Ser291 allele had significantly higher mean TC (P LT 0.01) and TG (P LT 0.05) and lower high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC) (P LT 0.05) compared with E2+/ Asn291.
