    E-branding: Context in Bangladesh

    Get PDF
Although commercial internet has been around for over a decade, and a vast amount of practitioner and scholarly literature on internet marketing activities of firms has accumulated, relatively little empirical work has been undertaken on the branding strategies of internet companies. From a global branding perspective the international aspects of such e-branding activities have received even less systematic research attention. This study covers the e-branding context in Bangladesh through some statistical evaluation. In our country though the infrastructure of the ICT is not very well, but the growing information technology provides the organization to enroll e-branding in order to survive in the market The analyses provide that e-branding is cost effective in our country and it is recommended that the ICT infrastructure should be expanded to get actual benefit from e-branding. Key words: e-branding, branding, digital brandin

Students' Attitudes towards Internet: A study on Private Universities of Bangladesh

    Get PDF
This study investigated the attitude of private university students in Bangladesh towards internet. Results from the study indicated that students had positive attitudes toward using the Internet as a learning tool, adequate basic knowledge of the Internet, viewed Internet is a fastest way to reach knowledge, and Internet has a potential to be an effective training tool. The results also revealed that the students exhibited positive attitudes toward the Internet irrespective of gender, again in contradiction to most other findings. Possible reasons and the implications of these findings will be elaborated and discussed. Keywords: Students' Attitudes, Internet use, Private Universit

Problems Faced by Garments Workers: A Study on Matrix Sweaters Limited

This paper examines the problems confronted by Matrix Sweaters Limited workers. The study also attempts to identify the possible reasons for dispute among the workers. Results from the study have revealed that wage discrimination is the main problem for Garments workers and low salary for garments worker is the vital reason for industrial dispute. The analysis have also exposed that workload is not justifiable to labor act. The hypothesis test has proved that female garments workers faced more problems in compare to male workers. Machine Learning Approaches for Modeling Spammer Behavior

Spam is commonly known as unsolicited or unwanted email messages in the Internet causing potential threat to Internet Security. Users spend a valuable amount of time deleting spam emails. More importantly, ever increasing spam emails occupy server storage space and consume network bandwidth. Keyword-based spam email filtering strategies will eventually be less successful to model spammer behavior as the spammer constantly changes their tricks to circumvent these filters. The evasive tactics that the spammer uses are patterns and these patterns can be modeled to combat spam. This paper investigates the possibilities of modeling spammer behavioral patterns by well-known classification algorithms such as Na\"ive Bayesian classifier (Na\"ive Bayes), Decision Tree Induction (DTI) and Support Vector Machines (SVMs). Preliminary experimental results demonstrate a promising detection rate of around 92%, which is considerably an enhancement of performance compared to similar spammer behavior modeling research.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, 5 tables, Submitted to AIRS 201

Brain tumor a notorious disease has affected and devastated many lives This disease has been the centre of attention of thousands of researchers for many decades around the world Researchers have combined their knowledge and efforts from many areas ranging from medical to mathematical sciences to better understand the disease and to find more effective treatments The key objective of this paper is to form a methodology to detect extraction of brain tumor from a patient s MRI This method incorporates with some noise removal functions segmentation and morphological operations which are the basic concepts of image processing Proposed methodology will detect tumor and finally the fractional area of tumor will be calculated All of this processing will be done by MATLAB softwar

Treatment of Scoliosis by Hartshill Rectangle and Sublaminar Wiring

Background: Scoliosis is a complex three dimensional deformity characterized by coronal, sagittal and horizontal plane deviation. Treatment of scoliosis has made significant development in techniques and modalities of internal fixation. Objective: To see the efficacy of Hartshill rectangle and sublaminar wiring for correction of scoliotic deformity, clinical outcome and patients satisfaction. Methods: During the period of July 2008 to June 2011, 14 patients of scoliotic spinal deformities of various etiologies (Congenital-02, idiopathic-12) were operated. Age ranged from 11 to 23 years with mean 16.71 ± 03.22 years. Female 09 and male 05 patients were included where Hartshill rectangles with sublaminar wiring were used for every case. Results: At least 12 months (range 12-36 months) follow up regarding clinico-radiological evaluation and patients satisfaction were accounted as per the SRS-24 questionnaire. The mean scoliosis in the coronal plane (Cobbs angle) measured 53.50o ± 03.98o preoperatively reducing significantly to 21.14o ± 02.77o (p<0.05) and the mean preoperative sagittal plane angle 60.14o ± 07.30o reducing significantly to average 42.14o ± 05.28o (p<0.05) at 1 year as determined by paired t-test. No neurological complication was seen except transient hyperesthesia in 02 patients, superficial wound infection in 01 patient and 01 wire breakage. All the patients were happy to live with their present back status. Conclusion: Overall outcome in segmental spinal fixation with sublaminar wire and Hartshill rectangle is satisfactory and effective.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/bsmmuj.v5i1.10981 BSMMU J 2012; 5(1):6-1
