    Health and Environmental Safety Aspect of Construction Project

    Generally projects are classified as Major Project, Medium Project and Minor Project. According to the size of construction, Health and Environment related concerns are considered. All type of construction must follow Building acts as stated in National Building Code of India thereof all health and environmental provisions for safety of, societal beings and his environment, are made, beside these things there are few such issues which are unpleasantly encountered. The aim of this paper is to propose a way and tactics to resolve such issues in a constructive and productive manner. The objective of this paper is to make us aware about the common environmental terms, to state their legal obligations and our responsibilities in relation to environmental legislation, to recognize common environmental impacts on construction sites in general and potential impacts resulting from the individuals work activities in particular, to identify the currently accepted environmental management best practices for relevant workplace activities. It contains remedial measures and safety precautions at different stages of project, like planning, consulting and execution and post-construction operation. The committees recommended environmental clearance to the controversial project based on several conditions and promises of strict monitoring.  It is seen that human health and the health of the environment are mutually interdependent. Human health is seen by many as the justification for the impact assessment of development projects and for environmental protection. It has become very important to take these health and environment related problems seriously.

    In this topic of mass housing the Shortage of housing accommodation is assuming on alarming proportion particularly in the Indian metropolitan cities as a result of unique rise in population and unending influx of migrants. Mass housing construction carried out on a war footing could help in mitigating the problem to a great extent. In pragmatic approach, encompassing considerations related to locations of new construction, provision of transit camps, financial and operational incentives and finally adoption of innovative construction technologies, is highly essential and the same could lead to expeditious, cost - effective and quality construction. In the housing scenario in India with particular reference to Mumbai, along with the measures taken in the past to tackle the same. The various technologies that were adopted for mall housing construction in Mumbai and which resulted in speedy completion of some 49,000 tenements in a short period are decried. The authors argue that a storing political will, provision of financial and operational incentives and adoption of innovative technologies of construction could go a long way in mitigating the housing problem.

    Rapid urbanization is the root cause of deteriorating environmental quality. In the twenty first century, under pressure people are exploring different sustainable approaches. Built environment, is the major consumer of energy and a prime contributor to the quality of environment. Technologies like passive techniques, intelligent facade, cool roof, green roof etc. can be used for a sustainable environment. Green roof is one such sustainable approach, which helps us in insulating the buildings and, thereby contributes to energy efficiency of the habitat to different species, reduces the rainwater runoff and leads to better management of the carbon-dioxide cycle. To create an understanding there are different existing rating systems which support appraisal of Green Roof like Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System and Green Rating for Integrated Habitat assessment(GRIHA) rating system. The intent of this paper is to motivate for the integration of Green roof in the GRIHA Green building code. India has resulted in unplanned urban sprawl with increased urban densities and reduction in urban open spaces, and recreational spaces and permanent loss of valuable agricultural land.      A net zero-energy building (ZEB) is a residential or commercial building with greatly reduced energy needs through efficiency gains such that the balance of energy needs can be supplied with renewable technologies. Despite the excitement over the phrase “zero energy,” we lack a common definition, or even a common understanding, of what it means. In this paper, we use a sample of current generation low-energy buildings to explore the concept of zero energy: what it means, why a clear and measurable definition is needed, and how we have progressed toward the ZEB goal. It is difficult to find a building, which can be named the first Zero Energy/Emission Building (ZEB). One of the reasons could be that maybe ZEB is not a new concept for a building, it is just a modern name for buildings, from times before district heating and electricity, heated with wood or straw and lighted with candles and domestic animals? Nevertheless, in the late seventies and early eighties appeared few articles, in which phrases ‘a zero energy house’, ‘a neutral energy autonomous house’ or ‘an energy-independent house’ were used.

    With the growth and development on all fronts all country, economic and infrastructural there is an increasing need for new facilities, building, roads etc. This has in turn resulted in a huge demand for the material of construction and the raw materials from which these are obtained or made, thus putting an increasing pressure on the natural environment around us. The consumption of waste material can be increase manifold if these are used as fine aggregate into concrete. This type of use of waste material can solve problems of lack of aggregate in various construction sites and also reduce sort of concrete production.The M20 grade concrete has been chosen as the reference concrete specimen. Scrap tire rubber, in size less than 4.75mm and greater than 75µ has been used as fine aggregate with the replacement of conventional fine aggregate in concrete paver. A series of Compressive strength test will be carried out on rubberized concrete paver block with a different percentage and also verify the density of rubberized concrete paver block. The feasibility of replacing fine tire rubber in concrete is concluded for improving the compressive strength of traditional concrete
