Nuevos formatos de verificaciĂłn. El caso de Maldito Bulo en Twitter
The evolution of the study of rumors and hoaxes on Twitter has to adapt the look to each country and to each media compared system (Hallin and Mancini, 2004). The aim of this research is to analyze the tweets published from the Maldito Bulo account (Spain) and to explore and describe the verification processes that are (re)presented there. In this study, a content analysis is focused on their tweets, links, images, mentions, etc. and the research is complemented by in-depth interviews with team members. From the analysis carried out on the Maldito Bulo account, two different strategies and structures of communication are clearly drawn: one related to debunking rumors and the other related to the type of disinformation that circulates

Análisis del modelo desregulador de prensa en España frente al modelo liberal británico y al intervencionista euromediterráneo [The deregulator Spanish model of press face to the liberal British model and the interventionist Euromediterranean model].
The aim of this article is to analyse the State’s role in the evolution and development of the Spanish system of press face to the British model and the Euro-Mediterranean model of press. Whereas the Euro-Mediterranean model has a similar starting point: the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen of August 26, 1789, the British model is characterised by the inhibition of public powers, developed in concordance with the North American tradition begun with the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (December 15, 1791). For this reason, it is necessary to recognize the legislative measures that every country has followed to understand why the current situation needs to diagnose and prescribe global and local solutions

El papel de las tecnologĂas cĂvicas en la redefiniciĂłn de la esfera pĂşblica
The shortcomings of representative democracy, expressed in terms of distance and disaffection with traditional political actors, have triggered the demand for new structures that are accessible to citizens and promote transparency and accountability in the exercise of power. Civic technologies, tools that are mainly driven by civil society organizations, aim to involve citizens in public decision-making processes. In the following article we reflect on the potential and limits of these technologies in a context of a dynamic public sphere with the aim of deepening the relationship between new media, social networks and civic technologies

ICF-Based Disability Survey in a Rural Population of Adults and Older Adults Living in Cinco Villas, Northeastern Spain: Design, Methods and Population Characteristics
Background: This article describes the methods of a door-to-door screening survey exploring the distribution of disability and its major determinants in northeastern Spain. This study will set the basis for the development of disability-related services for the rural elderly in northeastern Spain. Methods: The probabilistic sample was composed of 1,354 de facto residents from a population of 12,784 Social Security card holders (age: 6 50 years). Cognitive and disability screenings were conducted (period: June 2008-June 2009). Screening instruments were the MMSE and the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule. Participants screened positive for disability underwent an assessment protocol focusing on primary care diagnoses, disability, lifestyle, and social and health service usage. Participants screened positive for cognitive functioning went through in-depth neurological evaluation. Results: The study sample is described. Usable data were available for 1,216 participants. A total of 625 individuals (51.4%) scored within the positive range in the disability screening, while 135 (11.1%) scored within the positive range of the cognitive screening. The proportion of positively screened individuals was higher for women and increased with age. Conclusions: Screening surveys represent a feasible design for examining the distribution of disability and its determinants among the elderly. Data quality may benefit from methodological developments tailored to rural populations with a low education level. Copyright (C) 2010 S. Karger AG, Base
