The Fate of a Five-Dimensional Rotating Black Hole via Hawking Radiation

We study the evolution of a five-dimensional rotating black hole emitting scalar field radiation via the Hawking process for arbitrary initial values of the two rotation parameters aa and bb. It is found that any such black hole whose initial rotation parameters are both nonzero evolves toward an asymptotic state a/M1/2=b/M1/2=const(0)a/M^{1/2}=b/M^{1/2}={\rm const}(\neq 0), where this constant is independent of the initial values of aa and bb.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figure

Possible helimagnetic order in Co4+-containing perovskites Sr1-xCaxCoO3

We systematically synthesized perovskite-type oxides Sr1-xCaxCoO3 containing unusually high valence Co4+ ions by a high pressure technique, and investigated the effect of systematic lattice change on the magnetic and electronic properties. As the Ca content x exceeds about 0.6, the structure changes from cubic to orthorhombic, which is supported by the first-principles calculations of enthalpy. Upon the orthorhombic distortion, the ground state remains to be apparently ferromagnetic with a slight drop of the Curie temperature. Importantly, the compounds with x larger than 0.8 show antiferromagnetic behavior with positive Weiss temperatures and nonlinear magnetization curves at lowest temperature, implying that the ground state is noncollinear antiferromagnetic or helimagnetic. Considering the incoherent metallic behavior and the suppression of the electronic specific heat at high x region, the possible emergence of a helimagnetic state in Sr1-xCaxCoO3 is discussed in terms of the band-width narrowing and the double-exchange mechanism with the negative charge transfer energy as well as the spin frustration owing to the next-nearest neighbor interaction.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure

Objective: Atypical Odontalgia (AO) is a condition characterized by tooth pain with no apparent cause. Although psychiatric comorbidity seems to be very common, it has rarely been studied. To clarify the influence of psychiatric comorbidity on the clinical features in patients with AO, we retrospectively evaluated their examination records. Methods: Clinical features and psychiatric diagnoses of 383 patients with AO were investigated by reviewing patients' medical records and referral letters. Psychiatric diagnoses were categorized according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5). We also analyzed visual analogue scale (VAS), self-rating depression scale (SDS), and the short-form McGill pain questionnaire (SF-MPQ) scores. Results: Of the 383 patients with AO, 177 (46.2%) had comorbid psychiatric disorders. The most common were depressive disorders (15.4%) and anxiety disorders (10.1%). Serious psychotic disorders such as bipolar disorder (3.0%) and schizophrenia (1.8%) were rare. Dental trigger of AO was reported in 217 (56.7%) patients. There were no significant correlations between psychiatric comorbidities and most of the demographic features. Higher VAS and SDS scores, higher frequency of sleep disturbance, and higher ratings of “Fearful” and “Punishing-cruel” descriptors of the SF-MPQ were found in patients with psychiatric comorbidity. Conclusions: About half of AO patients had comorbid psychiatric disorders. Dental procedures are not necessarily causative factors of AO. In AO patients with comorbid psychiatric disorders, pain might have a larger emotional component than a sensory one. VAS, SDS, and SF-MPQ scores might aid in the noticing of underlying comorbid psychiatric disorders in AO patients

On March 2011, Naruto University of Education, putting Advanced Practice of School Education as a center organization, signed an Agreement of Cooperative Project with Suzuka Board of Education. We carried out the questionnaire survey of junior high school students, teachers and parents of the students in Suzuka City at 2011 and 2012 on this Project. The construction of the school assessment questionnaires for the parents of the 2012 version that examines those of the 2011 version are studied. In the 2012 version of the school assessment questionnaires, 33 items in the 3 categories / 6 subcategories at the parents were set up for generalized use. As a result of principal component analysis of survey data on November and December 2012, 4 factors were extracted in for the parents. Although a little item showed different relevancy from the setting, many items showed the validity as the assessment items of that

DOCK2 is involved in the host genetics and biology of severe COVID-19

「コロナ制圧タスクフォース」COVID-19疾患感受性遺伝子DOCK2の重症化機序を解明 --アジア最大のバイオレポジトリーでCOVID-19の治療標的を発見--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2022-08-10.Identifying the host genetic factors underlying severe COVID-19 is an emerging challenge. Here we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) involving 2, 393 cases of COVID-19 in a cohort of Japanese individuals collected during the initial waves of the pandemic, with 3, 289 unaffected controls. We identified a variant on chromosome 5 at 5q35 (rs60200309-A), close to the dedicator of cytokinesis 2 gene (DOCK2), which was associated with severe COVID-19 in patients less than 65 years of age. This risk allele was prevalent in East Asian individuals but rare in Europeans, highlighting the value of genome-wide association studies in non-European populations. RNA-sequencing analysis of 473 bulk peripheral blood samples identified decreased expression of DOCK2 associated with the risk allele in these younger patients. DOCK2 expression was suppressed in patients with severe cases of COVID-19. Single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis (n = 61 individuals) identified cell-type-specific downregulation of DOCK2 and a COVID-19-specific decreasing effect of the risk allele on DOCK2 expression in non-classical monocytes. Immunohistochemistry of lung specimens from patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia showed suppressed DOCK2 expression. Moreover, inhibition of DOCK2 function with CPYPP increased the severity of pneumonia in a Syrian hamster model of SARS-CoV-2 infection, characterized by weight loss, lung oedema, enhanced viral loads, impaired macrophage recruitment and dysregulated type I interferon responses. We conclude that DOCK2 has an important role in the host immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection and the development of severe COVID-19, and could be further explored as a potential biomarker and/or therapeutic target
