Effect of fresh water supply on agriculture in the southwest of the Netherlands.
Soil water deficits for twelve crops during each summer from 1933 to 1980 were calculated for a 15,000 ha region of southwestern Netherlands, and the chloride load of the drainage ditches, due to the seepage of salt water from the sea, was determined. Water requirements for sprinkling irrigation and for flushing the water courses for quality control were computed. The maximum water requirement for sprinkling and flushing was 3.4 mm day-1. Taxonomic and nomenclatural notes on Guatteria australis (Annonaceae)
Guatteria is the largest genus of Annonaceae, comprising ca. 300 species. The genus presents taxonomic problems, and the number of species has been overestimated. Taxonomic revision, description, comments and illustration of G. australis are presented here. As a result, 41 names have been placed in synonymy under G. australis, and three lectotypes are newly designated
Notes on New World Zingiberaceae
12 New species of Costus and 22 new species of Renealmia are described and various new combinations are made. All these species will be more intensively dealt with by the author in his forthcoming treatment of the genera Renealmia and Costus for Flora Neotropica (to be published in 1976)
