The Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is considered to be the most powerful and versatile among all FACTS devices. This paper presents the modeling and control of a UPFC system using pole-placement and H robust control techniques. A simulation study using Matlab/Simulink is presented to compare the performance of these control strategies and their robustness with respect to variations is the system parameters such as the inductance of the transmission line.Peer reviewe

Association of users with software agents in e-commerce

    Get PDF
This paper aims at answering three questions related to the association of users with software agents. This association applies to the e-commerce field in which users have online access to several products and services. Such users could delegate their routine and tedious transactions to agents that will be acting on their behalf. Why, how, and when this delegation occurs is discussed in this paper. Agents are considered in e-commerce due to the features that embody them, such as autonomy and mobility. © Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved

Vortex line lattice: structure and dynamics

    Get PDF
This thesis deals with a number of properties of the vortex lattice in high-temperature superconducting materials. Novel vortex lattice structures, other than the conventional one, are investigated. They are found to be energetically more stable for layered superconductors and for moderately anisotropic superconductors containing columnar defects; The dynamics of the vortex lattice, and in particular the magnetic hysteresis which arises because of the geometrical barrier in superconducting strips, is also studied. Its effect on the magnetization in both the absence and presence of the bulk pinning, as well as the time evolution of the vortex penetration into superconducting strips are investigated

Concepts and Operations of Two Research Projects on Web Services and Mobile Web Services

Today, Internet technologies are enabling a wave of innovations that have an important impact on the way businesses deal with their partners and customers. Most businesses are moving their operations to the Web for more automation, efficient business processes, and global visibility. Web services are one of the promising technologies that help businesses in achieving these operations and being more Web-oriented. Besides the new role of the Internet as a vehicle of delivering Web services, a major growth in the field of wireless and mobile technologies is witnessed. Because users are heavily relying on mobile devices to conduct their operations, enacting Web services from mobile devices and possibly downloading these Web services for execution on mobile devices are avenues that academia and industry communities are pursuing. M-services denote the Web services in the wireless world. In this chapter, two research initiatives carried out at Zayed University are presented and referred to as SAMOS, standing for Software Agents for MObile Services, and SASC, standing for Software Agents for Service Composition
