Digital numerically controlled oscillator
The frequency and phase of an output signal from an oscillator circuit are controlled with accuracy by a digital input word. Positive and negative alterations in output frequency are both provided for by translating all values of input words so that they are positive. The oscillator reference frequency is corrected only in one direction, by adding phase to the output frequency of the oscillator. The input control word is translated to a single algebraic sign and the digital 1 is added thereto. The translated input control word is then accumulated. A reference clock signal having a frequency at an integer multiple of the desired frequency of the output signal is generated. The accumulated control word is then compared with a threshold level. The output signal is adjusted in a single direction by dividing the frequency of the reference clock signal by a first integer or by an integer different from the first integer
Anomalous Pinning Fields in Helical Magnets: Screening of the Quasiparticle Interaction
The spin-orbit interaction strength g_so in helical magnets determines both
the pitch wave number q and the critical field H_c1 where the helix aligns with
an external magnetic field. Within a standard Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson (LGW)
theory, a determination of g_so in MnSi and FeGe from these two observables
yields values that differ by a factor of 20. This discrepancy is remedied by
considering the fermionic theory underlying the LGW theory, and in particular
the effects of screening on the effective electron-electron interaction that
results from an exchange of helical fluctuations.Comment: 4pp, 2 fig
Reexamining the "finite-size" effects in isobaric yield ratios using a statistical abrasion-ablation model
The "finite-size" effects in the isobaric yield ratio (IYR), which are shown
in the standard grand-canonical and canonical statistical ensembles (SGC/CSE)
method, is claimed to prevent obtaining the actual values of physical
parameters. The conclusion of SGC/CSE maybe questionable for neutron-rich
nucleus induced reaction. To investigate whether the IYR has "finite-size"
effects, the IYR for the mirror nuclei [IYR(m)] are reexamined using a modified
statistical abrasion-ablation (SAA) model. It is found when the projectile is
not so neutron-rich, the IYR(m) depends on the isospin of projectile, but the
size dependence can not be excluded. In reactions induced by the very
neutron-rich projectiles, contrary results to those of the SGC/CSE models are
obtained, i.e., the dependence of the IYR(m) on the size and the isospin of the
projectile is weakened and disappears both in the SAA and the experimental

Local anaesthetic bupivacaine induced ovarian and prostate cancer apoptotic cell death and underlying mechanisms in vitro
Retrospective studies indicate that the use of regional anesthesia can reduce cancer recurrence after surgery which could be due to ranging from immune function preservation to direct molecular mechanisms. This study was to investigate the effects of bupivacaine on ovarian and prostate cancer cell biology and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Cell viability, proliferation and migration of ovarian carcinoma (SKOV-3) and prostate carcinoma (PC-3) were examined following treatment with bupivacaine. Cleaved caspase 3, 8 and 9, and GSK-3β, pGSK-3β(tyr216) and pGSK-3β(ser9) expression were assessed by immunofluorescence. FAS ligand neutralization, caspase and GSK-3 inhibitors and GSK-3β siRNA were applied to further explore underlying mechanisms. Clinically relevant concentrations of bupivacaine reduced cell viability and inhibited cellular proliferation and migration in both cell lines. Caspase 8 and 9 inhibition generated partial cell death reversal in SKOV-3, whilst only caspase 9 was effective in PC-3. Bupivacaine increased the phosphorylation of GSK-3β(Tyr216) in SKOV-3 but without measurable effect in PC3. GSK-3β inhibition and siRNA gene knockdown decreased bupivacaine induced cell death in SKOV-3 but not in PC3. Our data suggests that bupivacaine has direct ‘anti-cancer’ properties through the activation of intrinsic and extrinsic apoptotic pathways in ovarian cancer but only the intrinsic pathway in prostate cancer
Medium-induced multi-photon radiation
We study the spectrum of multi-photon radiation off a fast quark in medium in
the BDMPS/ASW approach. We reproduce the medium-induced one-photon radiation
spectrum in dipole approximation, and go on to calculate the two-photon
radiation in the Moli\`{e}re limit. We find that in this limit the LPM effect

A Survey on Multisensor Fusion and Consensus Filtering for Sensor Networks
Multisensor fusion and consensus filtering are two fascinating subjects in the research of sensor networks. In this survey, we will cover both classic results and recent advances developed in these two topics. First, we recall some important results in the development ofmultisensor fusion technology. Particularly, we pay great attention to the fusion with unknown correlations, which ubiquitously exist in most of distributed filtering problems. Next, we give a systematic review on several widely used consensus filtering approaches. Furthermore, some latest progress on multisensor fusion and consensus filtering is also presented. Finally,
