Cut Vertices and Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Processes
Cut vertices, a generalization of matrix elements of local operators, are
revisited, and an expansion in terms of minimally subtracted cut vertices is
formulated. An extension of the formalism to deal with semi-inclusive deep
inelastic processes in the target fragmentation region is explicitly
constructed. The problem of factorization is discussed in detail.Comment: LaTex2e, 24 pages including 17 postscript figure
Exponentiation of the Drell-Yan cross section near partonic threshold in the DIS and MSbar schemes
It has been observed that in the DIS scheme the refactorization of the
Drell-Yan cross section leading to exponentiation of threshold logarithms can
also be used to organize a class of constant terms, most of which arise from
the ratio of the timelike Sudakov form factor to its spacelike counterpart. We
extend this exponentiation to include all constant terms, and demonstrate how a
similar organization may be achieved in the MSbar scheme. We study the
relevance of these exponentiations in a two-loop analysis.Comment: 20 pages, JHEP style, no figure
Evolution of Parton Fragmentation Functions at Finite Temperature
The first order correction to the parton fragmentation functions in a thermal
medium is derived in the leading logarithmic approximation in the framework of
thermal field theory. The medium-modified evolution equations of the parton
fragmentation functions are also derived. It is shown that all infrared
divergences, both linear and logarithmic, in the real processes are canceled
among themselves and by corresponding virtual corrections. The evolution of the
quark number and the energy loss (or gain) induced by the thermal medium are
investigated.Comment: 21 pages in RevTex, 10 figure
Virtual photon fragmentation functions
We introduce operator definitions for virtual photon fragmentation functions,
which are needed for reliable calculations of Drell-Yan transverse momentum
() distributions when is much larger than the invariant mass . We
derive the evolution equations for these fragmentation functions. We calculate
the leading order evolution kernels for partons to fragment into a unpolarized
as well as a polarized virtual photon. We find that fragmentation functions to
a longitudinally polarized virtual photon are most important at small , and
the fragmentation functions to a transversely polarized virtual photon dominate
the large region. We discuss the implications of this finding to the
J/ mesons' polarization at large transverse momentum.Comment: Latex, 19 pages including 6 figures. An error in the first version

The dihadron fragmentation function and its evolution
Dihadron fragmentation functions and their evolution are studied in the
process of annihilation. Under the collinear factorization
approximation and facilitated by the cut-vertex technique, the two hadron
inclusive cross section at leading order (LO) is shown to factorize into a
short distance parton cross section and a long distance dihadron fragmentation
function. We provide the definition of such a dihadron fragmentation function
in terms of parton matrix elements and derive its DGLAP evolution equation at
leading log. The evolution equation for the non-singlet quark fragmentation
function is solved numerically with a simple ansatz for the initial condition
and results are presented for cases of physical interest.Comment: 27 pages, 2 column, Revtex4, 21 figure
Two parton shower background for associate W Higgs production
The estimates of the background for the associate W Higgs production, which
stems from the two parton shower production. It is about 1 - 2.5 times larger
than the signal. However, this background does not depend on the rapidity
difference between the W and the pair, while the signal peaks when
the rapidity difference is zero. The detailed calculations for the enhanced
diagrams' contribution to this process, are presented, and it is shown that the
overlapping singularities, being important theoretically, lead to a negligible
contribution for the LHC range of energiesComment: 35 pages and 10 figures in eps file
On the Resummation of the epe^+e^-$ Annihilation
The resummation of the non-singlet contributions is
performed for initial state QED corrections. As examples, the effect of the
resummation on neutral-current deep-inelastic scattering and the scattering cross section near the -peak is
investigated.Comment: 11 pages Latex, including 3 eps-figure
Dijet Production at Large Rapidity Intervals
We examine dijet production at large rapidity intervals at Tevatron energies,
by using the theory of Lipatov and collaborators which resums the leading
powers of the rapidity interval. We analyze the growth of the Mueller-Navelet
-factor in this context and find it to be negligible. However, we do find a
considerable enhancement of jet production at large transverse momenta. In
addition, we show that the correlation in transverse momentum and azimuthal
angle of the tagging jets fades away as the rapidity interval is increased.Comment: 12 pages, preprint DESY 93-139, SCIPP 93/3
Identification of parvalbumin interneurons as cellular substrate of fear memory persistence
Parvalbumin-positive (PV) basket cells provide perisomatic inhibition in the cortex and hippocampus and control generation of memory-related network activity patterns, such as sharp wave ripples (SPW-R). Deterioration of this class of fast-spiking interneurons has been observed in neuropsychiatric disorders and evidence from animal models suggests their involvement in the acquisition and extinction of fear memories. Here, we used mice with neuron type-targeted expression of the presynaptic gain-of-function glycine receptor RNA variant GlyR {beta}3L(185L) to genetically enhance the network activity of PV interneurons. These mice showed reduced extinction of contextual fear memory but normal auditory cued fear memory. They furthermore displayed increase of SPW-R activity in area CA3 and CA1 and facilitated propagation of this particular network activity pattern, as determined in ventral hippocampal slice preparations. Individual freezing levels during extinction and SPW-R propagation were correlated across genotypes. The same was true for parvalbumin immunoreactivity in the ventral hippocampus, which was generally augmented in the GlyR mutant mice and correlated with individual freezing levels. Together, these results identify PV interneurons as critical cellular substrate of fear memory persistence and associated SPW-R activity in the hippocampus. Our findings may be relevant for the identification and characterization of physiological correlates for posttraumatic stress and anxiety disorders
