    On virialization with dark energy

    We review the inclusion of dark energy into the formalism of spherical collapse, and the virialization of a two-component system, made of matter and dark energy. We compare two approaches in previous studies. The first assumes that only the matter component virializes, e.g. as in the case of a classic cosmological constant. The second approach allows the full system to virialize as a whole. We show that the two approaches give fundamentally different results for the final state of the system. This might be a signature discriminating between the classic cosmological constant which cannot virialize and a dynamical dark energy mimicking a cosmological constant. This signature is independent of the measured value of the equation of state. An additional issue which we address is energy non-conservation of the system, which originates from the homogeneity assumption for the dark energy.     Ellipsoidal configurations in the de Sitter spacetime

    The cosmological constant Λ\Lambda modifies certain properties of large astrophysical rotating configurations with ellipsoidal geometries, provided the objects are not too compact. Assuming an equilibrium configuration and so using the tensor virial equation with Λ\Lambda we explore several equilibrium properties of homogeneous rotating ellipsoids. One shows that the bifurcation point, which in the oblate case distinguishes the Maclaurin ellipsoid from the Jacobi ellipsoid, is sensitive to the cosmological constant. Adding to that, the cosmological constant allows triaxial configurations of equilibrium rotating the minor axis as solutions of the virial equations. The significance of the result lies in the fact that minor axis rotation is indeed found in nature. Being impossible for the oblate case, it is permissible for prolate geometries, with Λ\Lambda zero and positive. For the triaxial case, however, an equilibrium solution is found only for non-zero positive Λ\Lambda. Finally, we solve the tensor virial equation for the angular velocity and display special effects of the cosmological constant there.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures, published in Class. Quant. Grav.     On the Possibility of Anisotropic Curvature in Cosmology

    In addition to shear and vorticity a homogeneous background may also exhibit anisotropic curvature. Here a class of spacetimes is shown to exist where the anisotropy is solely of the latter type, and the shear-free condition is supported by a canonical, massless 2-form field. Such spacetimes possess a preferred direction in the sky and at the same time a CMB which is isotropic at the background level. A distortion of the luminosity distances is derived and used to test the model against the CMB and supernovae (using the Union catalog), and it is concluded that the latter exhibit a higher-than-expected dependence on angular position. It is shown that future surveys could detect a possible preferred direction by observing ~ 20 / (\Omega_{k0}^2) supernovae over the whole sky.Comment: Extended SNe analysis and corrected some CMB results.     Superintegrability and higher order polynomial algebras II

    In an earlier article, we presented a method to obtain integrals of motion and polynomial algebras for a class of two-dimensional superintegrable systems from creation and annihilation operators. We discuss the general case and present its polynomial algebra. We will show how this polynomial algebra can be directly realized as a deformed oscillator algebra. This particular algebraic structure allows to find the unitary representations and the corresponding energy spectrum. We apply this construction to a family of caged anisotropic oscillators. The method can be used to generate new superintegrable systems with higher order integrals. We obtain new superintegrable systems involving the fourth Painleve transcendent and present their integrals of motion and polynomial algebras.Comment: 11 page

    No início dos anos de 1970, uma consultoria externa aportou, com vários especialistas, no Vale do Rio Curu, para estruturar um dos maiores Projetos de Irrigação do estado Ceará. Retirar da pobreza mais de 800 famílias de agricultores familiar era sua meta primordial. Na mesma década de 1970, essas alternativas de desenvolvimento pensadas para países subdesenvolvidos exibiam sinais de ineficácia, o que aponta uma incoerência, desde sua concepção. Atualmente, o grande desafio das famílias e equipes técnicas do projeto é a discussão sobre a sua sustentabilidade. São esses os termos que posicionam o presente debate, apontando algumas dificuldades que se anunciam para o tal intento, quando se pretende alinhar resultados alcançados ao conceito mais popularizado de desenvolvimento sustentável, formulado no relatório da Comissão Brundtland em 1987
