The organizational implications of medical imaging in the context of Malaysian hospitals

This research investigated the implementation and use of medical imaging in the context of Malaysian hospitals. In this report medical imaging refers to PACS, RIS/HIS and imaging modalities which are linked through a computer network. The study examined how the internal context of a hospital and its external context together influenced the implementation of medical imaging, and how this in turn shaped organizational roles and relationships within the hospital itself. It further investigated how the implementation of the technology in one hospital affected its implementation in another hospital. The research used systems theory as the theoretical framework for the study. Methodologically, the study used a case-based approach and multiple methods to obtain data. The case studies included two hospital-based radiology departments in Malaysia. The outcomes of the research suggest that the implementation of medical imaging in community hospitals is shaped by the external context particularly the role played by the Ministry of Health. Furthermore, influences from both the internal and external contexts have a substantial impact on the process of implementing medical imaging and the extent of the benefits that the organization can gain. In the context of roles and social relationships, the findings revealed that the routine use of medical imaging has substantially affected radiographers’ roles, and the social relationships between non clinical personnel and clinicians. This study found no change in the relationship between radiographers and radiologists. Finally, the approaches to implementation taken in the hospitals studied were found to influence those taken by other hospitals. Overall, this study makes three important contributions. Firstly, it extends Barley’s (1986, 1990) research by explicitly demonstrating that the organization’s internal and external contexts together shape the implementation and use of technology, that the processes of implementing and using technology impact upon roles, relationships and networks and that a role-based approach alone is inadequate to examine the outcomes of deploying an advanced technology. Secondly, this study contends that scalability of technology in the context of developing countries is not necessarily linear. Finally, this study offers practical contributions that can benefit healthcare organizations in Malaysia

Development of step-compliant system for turn-mill operations

Today with the latest technology the information beyond tool movement and switching instruction such as tooling, manufacturing features and process sequences are needed to support global adaptability for manufacturing with a specific focus on CNC-based manufacture. This research focuses on the use of the new standard; ISO 14649 (STEP-NC), to address the process planning and machining of discrete turn/mill components and proposes a STEP Compliant NC structure for generation of ISO 14646 code which can be used for turning component manufacture. The novel application of this work is STEP-NC compliant process control where the research will utilise and extend the standard for in process measurement at the machine and also explore the application and integration of the STEP-NC standards. The major contribution of this research is the review of a computational environment for a STEPNC compliant system for turn/mill operations by focusing the outlines of the three major CAD/CAM frameworks to support the implementation of the standard with various levels of STEP compliant architecture. Issues related to the implementation of these frameworks and their use with STEP compliant NC controllers provide a major change in the current day use of CAD, CAPP, CAM and CNC systems. This change will bring new challenges to industrial users and software vendors to identify the new boundaries and define intelligent CNC manufacture in the 21st century

The role of Zionist movement towards the creation of the state of Israel (Peranan pergerakan zionist terhadap pembentukan negara Israel)

The problem of Palestine has been a subject of much debate not only among scholars but also involved world superpowers as well. As this conflict rages on, there is a need to look at the root cause of the problem which one could argue that, among others, was caused by the ambitions of Zionist Movement. This paper examines the emergence of Zionist Movement and its role in establishing the State of Israel by confiscating Palestinians‟ territory and land. Zionist controls over the territory has resulted in the expulsion of Palestinians from their homeland. This study was conducted as a library research with textual analysis on the sources of Palestine historiography. The result shows that the Zionist Movement had lobbied the world superpowers, especially Britain and United States of America, until they supported the movement and resulting in the creation of the State of Israel on the Palestinian land

His Majesty’s Visit to Antarctica This is photographic journey of His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di–Pertuan Agong Al–Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al–Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al–Muktafi Billah Shah, Yang DiPertuan Agong XIII of Malaysia to Antarctica. It tells of His Majesty’s personal reflections and impressions through interviews with Prof. Dato’ Dr. Azizan Abu Samah and Tan Sri Dr. Salleh Mohd. Nor. His Majesty expressed admiration for the scientific research being undertaken by Malaysian scientists and their international counterparts on that cold continent and hoped that more Malaysian scientist will commit to undertake research in Antarctica. During the visit to Scott and Shackelton Huts, His Majesty admired and respected the courage and tenacity of the early explorers to that icy continent before the discovery of modern travel and technologies. His Majesty also expressed his admiration of the scientists who had dedicated their careers to research on the icy continent. This book also given a brief description of the Antarctic continent, the highest, driest and coldest continent in the world. It also tells about the Antarctic Treaty System and Malaysia’s involvement in Antarctic research. It concludes with a brief look at the future now that Malaysia has acceded to the Antarctic Treaty System

Containing Muslim extremism and radicalism

This article argues that wars, atrocities, radicalism and extremism have been caused by many interrelated external socio-economic, political and ethnic factors, even though religious communities are involved. However, internal factors such as the role of religious education, are instrumental in understanding religious radicalism and extremism, including among some Muslims. This article also elucidates the dual nature of Islamic religiosity in Asia i.e. its manifested diversity and underlying unity, traces Muslim historical treatment of religious extremism, and suggests that certain methodological and doctrinal aspects of contemporary Islamic education may have contributed to an extremist outlook and behavior. Legitimation analysis: exploring decision-making and power in Hot Bench

Research in discourse analysis has demonstrated that power can be illuminated through analyzing discourses. Centered on the notion that power and legitimation go hand-in-hand, these discourses are distinguished by specific linguistic components. One of the ways to explore how legitimation is tranquilized is to scrutinize its discourses, which some scholars (Wang, 2006; Van Leeuwen, 2007) argue have the precedence to control some of everyday, social, and public spheres. Following this premise, this paper examines how legitimation is jostled in selected decision-making scenes in a popular syndicated three-judge panel TV court show, Hot Bench. Two objectives are set out for this study; firstly to examine how organization and resolution of cases are generally settled and secondly to identify the types of legitimation employed by the judges in their decision-making processes. Premiered in 2014, Hot Bench draws over 2 million viewers in October 2014, jumping to a staggering 2.5 million viewers in November 2014, emerging as one of the most watched syndicated legal reality TV programs in United States of America with its second season renewed through 2017. By analyzing selected conversations by judges who deliberate verdicts, this study which employs Van Leeuwen’s framework of legitimation concludes that the judges typically employ three types of legitimation, namely, authorization, moral evaluation, and rationalization over the course of adjudicating TV’s court proceedings. This study ultimately contributes to the broader field of discourse analysis by tapping onto the belief that language, through discourse analysis, serves as a vehicle within which specific discourse community maintains power

The swing motion of the load happens because the behavior of the crane is similar to pendulum by the movement and friction on the load

DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF CONTROLLER FOR MOTION CONTROL SYSTEM

In motor drive applications, the mechanical properties of electrical motor under various load and operating conditions are different. These changes highly influence the performance of motor drive systems as the system's dynamic response under these variations is affected. This project presents the design and development of a system controller for motion control system. The basic approach used in this project is by using the modem control engineering theory through the state space approach. The state space design approach was used instead of the conventional control because state space design is most suitable for nonlinear system and multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system set-up. In the initial stage, the controller system for motion control system was designed using the linearized equation of motion. For this motion control system, the load torque was selected as the input with mechanical angnlar position as the output. This project consists of modelling and simulation using Simulink, and performance evaluation is done through the system analysis. A satisfactory performance is achieved from the designed controller system which is better than the conventional control in terms of controllability, observability and stability to be used in motion control system
