    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The National Scientific and Technical Committee meeting was held on 17 March 2021 with 10 participants, in Ammarossa room, Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. The objective of the meeting is to discuss the result of the survey trip in Bangka Belitung and to synchronize and accelerate progress among research teams in both locations under the coordination of NSTFP. The survey found that the fishing areas for squid are located in almost all parts of the Bangka Belitung sea where the institutional fishermen group has developed, so it is very supportive for the establishment and management of fisheries Refugia.UNEP/GE

    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The stakeholder consultation meeting for establishing fisheries refugia in West Kalimantan was organized by Research Institute for Fish resource Enhancement in Padang Tikar Village (Kubu Raya District), and Dusun Besar-Pulau Maya (Kayong Utara District), West Kalimantan on 22-23-24September 2021 with the total of 12, 10 and 25 participants respectively. The objectives of the meeting were to gain information regarding fishing activities and fishing ground for shrimp especially banana (Penaeus merguiensis) and white shrimp (Penaeus indicus) in Padang Tikar; to identify key threats to shrimp stock and the critical habitat linkages in Padang Tikar area; to identify key threats to fisheries refugia site; and to draft maps of fisheries refugia boundary in West Kalimantan.UNEP/GE

    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”This survey was conducted by the team of refugia project of Indonesia on 11-20 November in Bangka Belitung Islands. There were 10 participants involving in this survey. The objectives of the surveys were to identify critical habitat of squid (Urotheutis chinensis) in Bangka Belitung; to assess critical habitat of squid in Bangka Belitung water including spawning and nursery ground of squid; to assess oceanography condition in Bangka Belitung sea; to assess biological aspect of squid, this includes growth pattern, length distribution; food habit, and genetic pattern of squid in Bangka Belitung; to obtain data & information regarding exploitation pattern of squid, fishing gears and fisher community of squid; to identify social system and institutions of fish squid community.UNEP/GE

This is considered as a minimum requirement for the diffusion of the project’s results and visibility purposes. In addition, the webserver hosting the website may facilitate other critical technical activities such as data maintenance and management by cooperating with a file server or provide classified access to the project resources through a cooperating content management system. For the purposes of the fisheries refugia research project, the website may serve both as a simple public information station and as a connection point with other project services.UNEP/GE

    Consultative Meeting for Establishing Fisheries Refugia in West Kalimantan

    This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The consultative meeting for establishing fisheries Refugia of Penaeid shrimp in West Kalimantan were conducted via virtual platform on 16th -17 February 2021 with 43 participants. The aim of this meeting is to gather information and input from local governments, academics from university and other relevant institutions in West Kalimantan regarding the condition of shrimp fisheries, threats of shrimp stocks and their critical habitats, conservation areas that have been established in West Kalimantan and zoning plans for coastal areas in West Kalimantan. In light of this, many information has been provided and Ketapang has been identified as nursery area for white shrimp.UNEP/GE
