Fractional Cauchy problems on bounded domains: survey of recent results
In a fractional Cauchy problem, the usual first order time derivative is
replaced by a fractional derivative. This problem was first considered by
\citet{nigmatullin}, and \citet{zaslavsky} in for modeling some
physical phenomena.
The fractional derivative models time delays in a diffusion process. We will
give a survey of the recent results on the fractional Cauchy problem and its
generalizations on bounded domains D\subset \rd obtained in \citet{m-n-v-aop,
mnv-2}. We also study the solutions of fractional Cauchy problem where the
first time derivative is replaced with an infinite sum of fractional
derivatives. We point out a connection to eigenvalue problems for the
fractional time operators considered. The solutions to the eigenvalue problems
are expressed by Mittag-Leffler functions and its generalized versions. The
stochastic solution of the eigenvalue problems for the fractional derivatives
are given by inverse subordinators
Effects of different vibration frequencies, amplitudes and contraction levels on lower limb muscles during graded isometric contractions superimposed on whole body vibration stimulation
Background: Indirect vibration stimulation, i.e., whole body vibration or upper limb vibration, has been investigated increasingly as an exercise intervention for rehabilitation applications. However, there is a lack of evidence regarding the effects of graded isometric contractions superimposed on whole body vibration stimulation. Hence, the objective of this study was to quantify and analyse the effects of variations in the vibration parameters and contraction levels on the neuromuscular responses to isometric exercise superimposed on whole body vibration stimulation. Methods: In this study, we assessed the 'neuromuscular effects' of graded isometric contractions, of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% of maximum voluntary contraction, superimposed on whole body vibration stimulation (V) and control (C), i.e., no-vibration in 12 healthy volunteers. Vibration stimuli tested were 30 Hz and 50 Hz frequencies and 0.5 mm and 1.5 mm amplitude. Surface electromyographic activity of the vastus lateralis, vastus medialis and biceps femoris were measured during V and C conditions with electromyographic root mean square and electromyographic mean frequency values used to quantify muscle activity and their fatigue levels, respectively. Results: Both the prime mover (vastus lateralis) and the antagonist (biceps femoris) displayed significantly higher (P < 0.05) electromyographic activity with the V than the C condition with varying percentage increases in EMG root-mean-square (EMGrms) values ranging from 20% to 200%. For both the vastus lateralis and biceps femoris, the increase in mean EMGrms values depended on the frequency, amplitude and muscle contraction level with 50 Hz-0.5 mm stimulation inducing the largest neuromuscular activity. Conclusions: These results show that the isometric contraction superimposed on vibration stimulation leads to higher neuromuscular activity compared to isometric contraction alone in the lower limbs. The combination of the vibration frequency with the amplitude and the muscle tension together grades the final neuromuscular output.Peer reviewe
A LEGAL SYSTEM OF LEGAL PROTECTION OF THE LIFE ENVIRONMENT INTO THE USING OF FISHING RESOURCE OWNED COASTAL
A legal system of legal protection are more urgent, vital and strategic play role to defence, safe and sustain the life environment and its ecosystem from many more potencies disturbance and threat, destruction, pollution and high risks. The legal have more larger protected any more life sources potency of all life environment ecosystem include at coastal region and especially usage any fish resources it. But, its reality that essence of protection given by law tend so many change, bias and absurd, so that legal protection be not optimum yet. This study aimed to analyses legal system include legal substance, legal structure and legal culture in the legal protection of the life environment into using the fishing resource owned coastal region at the ones. A normative and empirical study as type of this research. Explorative used as design it. Data taken from primary, secondary and tertier material of law and jurisprudence. A list questionnaires, interview by in depth, observation and documentation study are used to collect all data need it. A qualitative used to analyzed any data. The result of this study or research indicated that legal substance, legal structure and legal culture are determinant of factors influent it and weak. Most important are internalized Sulapa’ Eppa’e and Pancasila (basic philosophy of Indonesia people) into legal policy and rules to overcame many problems in essential and urgent, and to be optimized legal protection it
Key words: Purpura thrombopénique, tuberculose, corticothérapie, enfan
Localized and controlled delivery of nitric oxide to the conventional outflow pathway via enzyme biocatalysis: towards therapy for Glaucoma
Nitric oxide (NO) has been shown to lower intraocular pressure (IOP), however its therapeutic effects on outflow physiology are location- and dose-dependent. Here, a NO delivery platform that directly targets the resistance-generating region of the conventional outflow pathway and locally liberates a controlled dose of NO is reported. An increase in outflow facility (decrease in IOP) is demonstrated in mouse model
Psychometric Properties of the Malay Language Version of Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) Questionnaire among Knee Osteoarthritis Patients: A Confirmatory Factor Analysis
Introduction: This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt a
Malay version of Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome
Score (KOOS) and to evaluate its psychometric properties in
patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA).
Materials and Methods: The English version KOOS was
translated into a Malay version using forward and backward
translation process, followed by face validity and content
validity. Two hundred and twenty-six knee OA patients
attending the Outpatient and Orthopaedic Clinics, Universiti
Sains Malaysia Hospital, completed the Malay version
KOOS. Construct validity using confirmatory factor analysis
and internal reliability assessment were performed.
Results: The results showed that the original five-factor
model with 42 items failed to achieve acceptable values of
the goodness of fit indices, indicating poor model fit. A new
five-factor model of 26 items demonstrated acceptable level
of goodness of fit (comparative fit index= 0.929, incremental
fit index= 0.930, Tucker Lewis fit index= 0.920, root mean
square error of approximation= 0.073 and Chisquared/
degree of freedom= 2.183) indices to signify a
model fit. The Cronbach’s alpha value for the new model
ranged from 0.776 to 0.946. The composite reliability values
of each construct ranged between 0.819 and 0.921,
indicating satisfactory to high level of convergent validity.
Conclusion: The five-factor model with 26 items in the
Malay version of KOOS questionnaire demonstrated a good
degree of goodness of fit and was found to be valid, reliable
and simple as an assessment tool for symptoms, pain,
activity of daily living, sports and recreational activity and
quality of life for Malaysian adults suffering from knee
osteoarthritis
Optimal strategies for a game on amenable semigroups
The semigroup game is a two-person zero-sum game defined on a semigroup S as
follows: Players 1 and 2 choose elements x and y in S, respectively, and player
1 receives a payoff f(xy) defined by a function f from S to [-1,1]. If the
semigroup is amenable in the sense of Day and von Neumann, one can extend the
set of classical strategies, namely countably additive probability measures on
S, to include some finitely additive measures in a natural way. This extended
game has a value and the players have optimal strategies. This theorem extends
previous results for the multiplication game on a compact group or on the
positive integers with a specific payoff. We also prove that the procedure of
extending the set of allowed strategies preserves classical solutions: if a
semigroup game has a classical solution, this solution solves also the extended
game.Comment: 17 pages. To appear in International Journal of Game Theor
Convolution-type derivatives, hitting-times of subordinators and time-changed -semigroups
In this paper we will take under consideration subordinators and their
inverse processes (hitting-times). We will present in general the governing
equations of such processes by means of convolution-type integro-differential
operators similar to the fractional derivatives. Furthermore we will discuss
the concept of time-changed -semigroup in case the time-change is
performed by means of the hitting-time of a subordinator. We will show that
such time-change give rise to bounded linear operators not preserving the
semigroup property and we will present their governing equations by using again
integro-differential operators. Such operators are non-local and therefore we
will investigate the presence of long-range dependence.Comment: Final version, Potential analysis, 201
Environmental bacteriophages active on biofilms and planktonic forms of toxigenic Vibrio cholerae: Potential relevance in cholera epidemiology.
METHODS: Phages isolated from environmental waters in Bangladesh were tested for their host specificity towards V. cholerae O1 and O139, and the ability to disperse V. cholerae biofilms formed in the laboratory. Representative phages were further characterized by electron microscopy and whole genome sequencing. Selected phages were then introduced in various combinations to biofilms of toxigenic V. cholerae added to samples of river water, and the dispersion of biofilms as well as the growth kinetics of V. cholerae and the phages were monitored. RESULTS: A phage cocktail composed of three different phages isolated from surface waters in Bangladesh and designated as JSF7, JSF4, and JSF3 could significantly influence the distribution and concentration of the active planktonic form and biofilm associated form of toxigenic V. cholerae in water. While JSF7 showed a biofilm degrading activity and dispersed cells from both V. cholerae O1 and O139 derived biofilms thus increasing the concentration of planktonic V. cholerae in water, JSF4 and JSF3 showed strong bactericidal activity against V. cholerae O1 and O139 respectively. A mixture of all three phages could effectively reduce both biofilm-associated and planktonic V. cholerae in river water microcosms. SIGNIFICANCE: Besides potential applicability in phage-mediated control of cholera, our results have relevance in appreciating possible intricate role of diverse environmental phages in the epidemiology of the disease, since both biofilms and phages influence the prevalence and infectivity of V. cholerae in a variety of ways
