Contesting Postwar Mitrovica
This chapter employs governmentality on postwar Mitrovica (Kosovo) to understand how different governing attempts structure the field of possible acts for collectives in its urban conflicts over peace(s). The first line of analysis explores how Belgrade uses its parallel institutions—which encompass everything from healthcare and education to undercover police and criminal networks—to enable, encourage, and pressure Serbs to resist integration into Kosovo in line with the Serb ethnonational peace. The second line of analyses explores how fear governs people on both sides of Mitrovica’s Ibar river into ethnonational division—according to both the Albanian and Serb ethnonational peace(s)—where “the other” is avoided and “our side” (of the city) is protected. The third line of analyses lastly explores the inability of external governing attempts to govern Albanians and Serbs towards coexistence, showing how it is either inefficient or even counterproductive
Nanoprobiotics: when technology meets gut health
Nanotechnology is a fast-rising industry not defined by a single field of research, but as the convergence of disciplines, such as chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and engineering, which exploits the benefits of nanoscale dimensions and characteristics for application in the macroworld. Current applications vary widely from nanorobotic industry to simple household items. However, the combination of such phenomena with probiotic science, another emerging and potentially promising area for the prevention and treatment of several human gastrointestinal and extraintestinal disorders using beneficial microorganisms, gives birth to “nanoprobiotics,” a field that focuses on the application of nanoscience into the probiotic-related world. In this chapter, we will navigate through the basic nanotech and probiotic knowledge and the current technologies employed with success for probiotic delivery and, ultimately, discuss what possibilities lie ahead in the nanoprobiotic future.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Aquatic and Wetland Vegetation Along the Sava River
Diverse hydrological, climate, and soil conditions along the Sava River caused significant diversification of vegetation. Therefore, the objective of this chapter is to integrate and present all the available data on variability of the aquatic and riparian plant communities along the Sava River and its main tributaries as well as to identify the environmental factors, which are related to the distribution of different vegetation types. Special attention has been also paid on the detection of threats for rare and endangered plant species and fragile wetland ecosystems along the Sava River. Based on data review, syntaxonomic revision of aquatic and riparian vegetation based on common, pan-European databank is required. Ecological studies that involve inventory, monitoring, modeling, and prediction of changes in populations, ecological communities, and ecosystems require both georeferenced databases and computational tools for application of statistical methods.Milačič R, Ščančar J, Paunović M, editors.
