Sorde-l’Abbaye – Abri du Grand Pastou

L’année 2017 a marqué l’achèvement de l’opération d’évaluation-diagnostic menée à l’abri du Grand Pastou depuis 2014. La campagne 2017 s’est focalisée sur la partie du gisement considérée comme la mieux conservée, c’est-à-dire une étroite terrasse au-devant de l’abri, dominant un talus de 20 m en pente raide (60°). Cardiac metaiodobenzylguanidine uptake in patients with moderate chronic heart failure: relationship with peak oxygen uptake and prognosis

AbstractOBJECTIVESThis prospective study was undertaken to correlate early and late metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) cardiac uptake with cardiac hemodynamics and exercise capacity in patients with heart failure and to compare their prognostic values with that of peak oxygen uptake (VO2).BACKGROUNDThe cardiac fixation of MIBG reflects presynaptic uptake and is reduced in heart failure. Whether it is related to exercise capacity and has better prognostic value than peak VO2is unknown.METHODSNinety-three patients with heart failure (ejection fraction <45%) were studied with planar MIBG imaging, cardiopulmonary exercise tests and hemodynamics (n = 44). Early (20 min) and late (4 h) MIBG acquisition, as well as their ratio (washout, WO) were determined. Prognostic value was assessed by survival curves (Kaplan–Meier method) and uni- and multivariate Cox analyses.RESULTSLate cardiac MIBG uptake was reduced (131 ± 20%, normal values 192 ± 42%) and correlated with ejection fraction (r = 0.49), cardiac index (r = 0.40) and pulmonary wedge pressure (r = −0.35). There was a significant correlation between peak VO2and MIBG uptake (r = 0.41, p < 0.0001). With a mean follow-up of 10 ± 8 months, both late MIBG uptake (p = 0.04) and peak VO2(p < 0.0001) were predictive of death or heart transplantation, but only peak VO2emerged by multivariate analysis. Neither early MIBG uptake nor WO yielded significant insights beyond those provided by late MIBG uptake.CONCLUSIONSMetaiodobenzylguanidine uptake has prognostic value in patients with wide ranges of heart failure, but peak VO2remains the most powerful prognostic index

The Mesolithic occupations of Bourrouilla in Arancou (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France)

Le Mésolithique de l’extrême sud-ouest de la France est aujourd’hui encore mal connu puisque que peu de gisements ont fourni des données fiables entre le sud des Landes et la frontière espagnole. La grotte de Bourrouilla à Arancou (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) apporte de précieuses données grâce à la découverte de témoins d’occupations associant vestiges lithiques et faune (mammifères, poissons et oiseaux). Trois locus, offrant des degrés de conservation différents, documentent inégalement un Premier Mésolithique avancé, un Second Mésolithique à trapèzes et un Néolithique ancien à segments du Bétey. Les études archéozoologiques permettent de percevoir l’exploitation de deux biotopes : la forêt et les cours d’eau. Le spectre de la faune chassée est dominé par le cerf, le chevreuil et le sanglier, auxquels sont associés le blaireau, la martre et la buse variable tandis que l’ichtyofaune est surtout représentée par les cyprinidés. Les données de saisonnalité convergent vers des occupations au début/milieu de la bonne saison. En outre, deux datations radiocarbone contribuent au débat sur la transition entre Premier et Second Mésolithique.The Mesolithic of the extreme southwest of France is still poorly understood because there are few sites that provide reliable data between the region of the southern Landes and the Spanish border. Bourrouilla cave at Arancou (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) has revealed some interesting information, following the discovery of occupation levels with evidence of Mesolithic lithic artefacts and fauna (mammal, fish, and bird).Three locations, producing material in differing states of preservation, have provided data about a late, early Mesolithic occupation, a later Mesolithic with trapezoid microliths and an early Neolithic with segments of Betey.The archaeozoological studies allow us to assess the exploitation of two biotopes : the forest and the rivers. The spectrum of hunted fauna is dominated by red deer, roe deer and wild boar, in association with badger, marten and common buzzard, while the fish remains are mainly cyprinids. The data on the seasonal occupation of the site converges on a time at the beginning or middle of the good season. In addition, there are two radiocarbon dates relevant to a discussion about the transition between the early and later Mesolithic occupation

Validating intravascular imaging with serial optical coherence tomography and confocal fluorescence microscopy

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases are characterized by the formation of a plaque in the arterial wall. Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) provides high-resolution images allowing delineation of atherosclerotic plaques. When combined with near infrared fluorescence (NIRF), the plaque can also be studied at a molecular level with a large variety of biomarkers. In this work, we present a system enabling automated volumetric histology imaging of excised aortas that can spatially correlate results with combined IVUS/NIRF imaging of lipid-rich atheroma in cholesterol-fed rabbits. Pullbacks in the rabbit aortas were performed with a dual modality IVUS/NIRF catheter developed by our group. Ex vivo three-dimensional (3D) histology was performed combining optical coherence tomography (OCT) and confocal fluorescence microscopy, providing high-resolution anatomical and molecular information, respectively, to validate in vivo findings. The microscope was combined with a serial slicer allowing for the imaging of the whole vessel automatically. Colocalization of in vivo and ex vivo results is demonstrated. Pathogenic Bacteria Target NEDD8-Conjugated Cullins to Hijack Host-Cell Signaling Pathways

The cycle inhibiting factors (Cif), produced by pathogenic bacteria isolated from vertebrates and invertebrates, belong to a family of molecules called cyclomodulins that interfere with the eukaryotic cell cycle. Cif blocks the cell cycle at both the G1/S and G2/M transitions by inducing the stabilization of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors p21waf1 and p27kip1. Using yeast two-hybrid screens, we identified the ubiquitin-like protein NEDD8 as a target of Cif. Cif co-compartmentalized with NEDD8 in the host cell nucleus and induced accumulation of NEDD8-conjugated cullins. This accumulation occurred early after cell infection and correlated with that of p21 and p27. Co-immunoprecipitation revealed that Cif interacted with cullin-RING ubiquitin ligase complexes (CRLs) through binding with the neddylated forms of cullins 1, 2, 3, 4A and 4B subunits of CRL. Using an in vitro ubiquitylation assay, we demonstrate that Cif directly inhibits the neddylated CUL1-associated ubiquitin ligase activity. Consistent with this inhibition and the interaction of Cif with several neddylated cullins, we further observed that Cif modulates the cellular half-lives of various CRL targets, which might contribute to the pathogenic potential of diverse bacteria

Brassempouy : la collection De Laporterie au Musée de Dax

ABSTRACT J. de Laporterie participation in the excavations at Brassempouy was overshadowed by Piette's personality. It resulted however in particular in the constitution of a collection, which remained practically unknown until fairly recently. Examination of this collection confirms the wealth of the Grotte du Pape and the Grotte des Hyènes, especially regarding bone artefacts. The presence among the lithic artefacts of a flat-sided Solutrean point provides a new argument in favour of the existence of early phases of the Solutrean culture in the Pyrenean region.Merlet Jean-Claude.
