The Hera space mission to the binary asteroid Didymos

It will rendezvous in late December 2026 with the binary asteroid Didymos and specifically its moon, Dimorphos, which was hit by NASA's DART spacecraft on Sept. 26, 2022 as the first deflection test of the asteroid. Hera's main objectives are the detailed characterization of the physical properties of Didymos and Dimorphos and of the crater produced by the DART mission, as well as the measurement of the momentum transfer efficiency resulting from the DART impact
