Investigating the hybrid textures of neutrino mass matrix for near maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing
In the present paper, we have studied that the implication of a large value
of the effective Majorana neutrino mass in case of neutrino mass matrices
having either two equal elements and one zero element (popularly known as
hybrid texture) or two equal cofactors and one zero minor (popularly known as
inverse hybrid texture) in the flavor basis. In each of these cases, four out
of sixty phenomenologically possible patterns predict near maximal atmospheric
neutrino mixing angle in the limit of large effective Majorana neutrino mass.
This feature remains irrespective of the experimental data on solar and reactor
mixing angles. In addition, we have also performed the comparative study of all
the viable cases of hybrid and inverse hybrid textures at 3 CL
From evidence-based to decision-analytic medicine: A mammography case study
The technology needed to implement mass screening by mammography existed well before the implementation of national screening programmes. This delay arose partly because of the complexities involved in conducting randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of screening programmes. These complexities not only extend the time needed to conduct trials of cancer screening, they reduce the external validity of the results. There is potential to improve the application of evidence-based medicine (EBM) to the evaluation of cancer screening programmes and other complex interventions through adding insights from Operational Research and Decision Theory. This would extend EBM to what might be called Decision-Analytic Medicine (DAM)
Arrested States of Solids
Solids produced as a result of a fast quench across a freezing or a
structural transition get stuck in long-lived metastable configurations of
distinct morphology, sensitively dependent on the processing history. {\it
Martensites} are particularly well studied examples of nonequilibrium
solid-solid transformations. Since there are some excellent reviews on the
subject, we shall, in this brief article, mainly present a summary of our work
on the nonequilibrium statistical mechanics of Martensites.Comment: 4 figs (3 embedded eps and 1 'slide.gif' separate), review written
