Item does not contain fulltextDuring apartheid and due to the cultural and academic boycott, relations between South Africa and the Netherlands in the fields of research and higher education were restricted to contacts between individuals and a small number of institutions. How have relationships in research and higher education recovered from the apartheid era? Which institutions are most active and most deeply involved in cooperation between the two countries? In which fields of science do researchers cooperate most actively? What kind of win-win situations and stumbling blocks do researchers see in partnering with colleagues from the other country? What is the institutional setting in which they have to cooperate? In a world on which knowlegde production and teaching are becoming more and more internationalised, cross-border partnerships constitute new forms of international cooperation. This book is based on a large survey and a number of focus group interviews in South Africa and the Netherlands, conducted by a team of researchers from both countries. It describes and examines these new forms of cooperation in research and higher education between South Africa and the Netherlands.318 p
