Group invariant inferred distributions via noncommutative probability
One may consider three types of statistical inference: Bayesian, frequentist,
and group invariance-based. The focus here is on the last method. We consider
the Poisson and binomial distributions in detail to illustrate a group
invariance method for constructing inferred distributions on parameter spaces
given observed results. These inferred distributions are obtained without using
Bayes' method and in particular without using a joint distribution of random
variable and parameter. In the Poisson and binomial cases, the final formulas
for inferred distributions coincide with the formulas for Bayes posteriors with

Analytical Results For The Steady State Of Traffic Flow Models With Stochastic Delay
Exact mean field equations are derived analytically to give the fundamental
diagrams, i.e., the average speed - car density relations, for the
Fukui-Ishibashi one-dimensional traffic flow cellular automaton model of high
speed vehicles with stochastic delay. Starting with the basic
equation describing the time evolution of the number of empty sites in front of
each car, the concepts of inter-car spacings longer and shorter than are
introduced. The probabilities of having long and short spacings on the road are
calculated. For high car densities , it is shown that
inter-car spacings longer than will be shortened as the traffic flow
evolves in time, and any initial configurations approach a steady state in
which all the inter-car spacings are of the short type. Similarly for low car
densities , it can be shown that traffic flow approaches an
asymptotic steady state in which all the inter-car spacings are longer than
. The average traffic speed is then obtained analytically as a function of
car density in the asymptotic steady state. The fundamental diagram so obtained
is in excellent agreement with simulation data.Comment: 12 pages, latex, 2 figure
Closed loop identification based on quantization
This paper proposes a new closed-loop identification scheme for a single-input-single-output control loop. It is based upon a quantizer inserted into the feedback path. The quantizer can be used to generate an equivalent persistently exciting signal with which the well known two-stage and/or two-step method can be used directly. Simulation examples and an experimental demonstration are used to illustrate the proposed scheme
Parallel updating cellular automaton models of driven diffusive Frenkel-Kontorova-type systems
Three cellular automaton (CA) models of increasing complexity are introduced
to model driven diffusive systems related to the generalized Frenkel-Kontorova
(FK) models recently proposed by Braun [Phys.Rev.E58, 1311 (1998)]. The models
are defined in terms of parallel updating rules. Simulation results are
presented for these models. The features are qualitatively similar to those
models defined previously in terms of sequentially updating rules. Essential
features of the FK model such as phase transitions, jamming due to atoms in the
immobile state, and hysteresis in the relationship between the fraction of
atoms in the running state and the bias field are captured. Formulating in
terms of parallel updating rules has the advantage that the models can be
treated analytically by following the time evolution of the occupation on every
site of the lattice. Results of this analytical approach are given for the two
simpler models. The steady state properties are found by studying the stable
fixed points of a closed set of dynamical equations obtained within the
approximation of retaining spatial correlations only upto two nearest
neighboring sites. Results are found to be in good agreement with numerical

Design of Compact BPF and Planar Diplexer for UMTS using Embedded-scheme Resonator
A compact planar diplexer utilizing embedded-scheme resonator (ESR) is designed for universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS). The ESR is formed by embedding interdigital resonators into an open loop resonator. Based on the proposed ESR, a narrowband bandpass filter suitable for diplexer design is proposed, fabricated and measured. The measured results demonstrate that the filter exhibits good transmission properties within band and high frequency selectivity. The rectangular area occupied by the filter has overall dimensions only 0.086λg by 0.105λg, promises good potential in wireless communication systems that require compact size and high encapsulation quality. Then, a compact planar diplexer operating at the TX-band of 1920-1980MHz and the RX-band of 2110-2170MHz, which is composed of a meander T-junction and two filters initially separately designed, is synthesized, simulated and measured. Both the simulated and measured results indicate that satisfied impedance matching and good isolation between two paths have been achieved
Optical spectroscopy study of Nd(O,F)BiS2 single crystals
We present an optical spectroscopy study on F-substituted NdOBiS
superconducting single crystals grown using KCl/LiCl flux method. The
measurement reveals a simple metallic response with a relatively low screened
plasma edge near 5000 \cm. The plasma frequency is estimated to be 2.1 eV,
which is much smaller than the value expected from the first-principles
calculations for an electron doping level of x=0.5, but very close to the value
based on a doping level of 7 of itinerant electrons per Bi site as
determined by ARPES experiment. The energy scales of the interband transitions
are also well reproduced by the first-principles calculations. The results
suggest an absence of correlation effect in the compound, which essentially
rules out the exotic pairing mechanism for superconductivity or scenario based
on the strong electronic correlation effect. The study also reveals that the
system is far from a CDW instability as being widely discussed for a doping
level of x=0.5.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
