    Some factors of the time of breaking and training affecting racing performance in young trotters

Some factors of the time of breaking and training affecting racing performance in young trotters. An inquiry study was carried out to query the main reasons for non-starting and poor racing results, as well as to estimate the effect of some factors of the time of breaking and training on racing performance. The numbers of acceptable responses were 796 for Standardbred trotters and 857 for Finnhorses. About 72 % of the Standardbred trotters raced before the end of the five-year season, and about 42 % of the Finnhorse trotters raced before the end of their six-year season. The main reasons for non-starting and poor racing results were injuries and ailments, bad character, lack of talent and poor training. In general, young age at the beginning of breaking and training was favorably associated with racing performance. For instance, three-year-old Standardbred trotters broken at the age of 1 or Wi years were 2.1 seconds faster (

    A new method of optical pumping in an ion beam cooler buncher has been developed to selectively enhance ionic metastable state populations. The technique permits the study of elements previously inaccessible to laser spectroscopy and has been applied here to the study of Nb. Model independent mean-square charge radii and nuclear moments have been studied for 90,90m,91,91m,92,93,99,101,103^{90,90 m,91,91 m,92,93,99,101,103}Nb to cover the region of the N=50 shell closure and N≈60 sudden onset of deformation. The increase in mean-square charge radius is observed to be less than that for Y, with a substantial degree of β softness observed before and after N=60

    During the last two decades, Samuel von Pufendorf’s (1632–1694) natural law philosophy has become the subject of renewed and growing attentiveness among intellectual historians and philosophers (Seidler 2015). In the late-seventeenth century and early eighteenth century, Pufendorf was the most widely-read moral and political philosopher in Europe, whose reputation is most clearly exemplified in the impressive number of translations and editions of his works. Pufendorfian natural law theory offered a shared vocabulary and conceptual possibilities for the discussion of morality, politics and interstate relations for numerous eighteenth-century thinkers, such as Christian Thomasius, the authors of the Scottish Enlightenment and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Pufendorf spent large parts of his career in princely courts and portrayed the history of states and their natural law foundations in his widely circulated historical works (Seidler 1997).     Mass measurements in the vicinity of the doubly-magic waiting point 56Ni

    Masses of 56,57Fe, 53Co^m, 53,56Co, 55,56,57Ni, 57,58Cu, and 59,60Zn have been determined with the JYFLTRAP Penning trap mass spectrometer at IGISOL with a precision of dm/m \le 3 x 10^{-8}. The QEC values for 53Co, 55Ni, 56Ni, 57Cu, 58Cu, and 59Zn have been measured directly with a typical precision of better than 0.7 keV and Coulomb displacement energies have been determined. The Q values for proton captures on 55Co, 56Ni, 58Cu, and 59Cu have been measured directly. The precision of the proton-capture Q value for 56Ni(p,gamma)57Cu, Q(p,gamma) = 689.69(51) keV, crucial for astrophysical rp-process calculations, has been improved by a factor of 37. The excitation energy of the proton emitting spin-gap isomer 53Co^m has been measured precisely, Ex = 3174.3(10) keV, and a Coulomb energy difference of 133.9(10) keV for the 19/2- state has been obtained. Except for 53Co, the mass values have been adjusted within a network of 17 frequency ratio measurements between 13 nuclides which allowed also a determination of the reference masses 55Co, 58Ni, and 59Cu.Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures, submitted to Phys.     The Q_EC values of the superallowed beta+ emitters 10-C, 34-Ar, 38-Ca and 46-V have been measured with a Penning-trap mass spectrometer to be 3648.12(8), 6061.83(8), 6612.12(7) and 7052.44(10) keV, respectively.     Nuclear charge radii of molybdenum fission fragments

    AbstractRadioisotopes of molybdenum have been studied using laser spectroscopy techniques at the IGISOL facility, University of Jyväskylä. Differences in nuclear charge radii have been determined for neutron deficient isotopes 90,91Mo and neutron rich isotopes 102–106,108Mo (and all stable isotopes). A smooth transition in the mean square charge radii is observed as the neutron number increases with no sudden shape change observed in the region around N=60. As N increases, the nuclear deformation appears to go beyond a maximum and a fall off at N=66 is observed. The magnetic moments of the odd isotopes 91,103,105Mo are also determined

    Precision Mass Measurements beyond 132^{132}Sn: Anomalous behaviour of odd-even staggering of binding energies

    Atomic masses of the neutron-rich isotopes 121−128^{121-128}Cd, 129,131^{129,131}In, 130−135^{130-135}Sn, 131−136^{131-136}Sb, and 132−140^{132-140}Te have been measured with high precision (10 ppb) using the Penning trap mass spectrometer JYFLTRAP. Among these, the masses of four r-process nuclei 135^{135}Sn, 136^{136}Sb, and 139,140^{139,140}Te were measured for the first time. The data reveals a strong NN=82 shell gap at ZZ=50 but indicates the importance of correlations for Z>50Z>50. An empirical neutron pairing gap expressed as the odd-even staggering of isotopic masses shows a strong quenching across NN=82 for Sn, with the ZZ-dependence that is unexplainable by the current theoretical models.Comment: 4 Pages, 5 figures.
