    Meson decay constants from Nf=2 clover fermions

    We present recent results for meson decay constants calculated on configurations with two flavours of O(a)-improved Wilson fermions. Non-perturbative renormalisation is applied and quark mass dependencies as well as finite volume and discretisation effects are investigated.     A determination of the strange quark mass for unquenched clover fermions using the AWI

    Using the O(a) Symanzik improved action an estimate is given for the strange quark mass for unquenched (nf=2) QCD. The determination is via the axial Ward identity (AWI) and includes a non-perturbative evaluation of the renormalisation constant. Numerical results have been obtained at several lattice spacings, enabling the continuum limit to be taken. Results indicate a value for the strange quark mass (in the MSbar-scheme at a scale of 2GeV) in the range 100 - 130MeV.Comment: 6 pages, contribution to Lattice2005(Hadron spectrum and quark masses), uses PoS.cl

    We give a 1993 update of non-compact lattice QED, in particular the chiral condensate, finite size effects and meson mass ratios. We compare descriptions of the phase transition.     A Determination of the Lambda Parameter from Full Lattice QCD

    We present a determination of the QCD parameter Lambda in the quenched approximation (n_f=0) and for two flavours (n_f=2) of light dynamical quarks. The calculations are performed on the lattice using O(a) improved Wilson fermions and include taking the continuum limit. We find Lambda_{n_f=0} = 259(1)(20) MeV and Lambda_{n_f=2} = 261(17)(26) MeV}, using r_0 = 0.467 fm to set the scale. Extrapolating our results to five flavours, we obtain for the running coupling constant at the mass of the Z boson alpha_s(m_Z) = 0.112(1)(2).     Targeting of Rad51-dependent homologous recombination: implications for the radiation sensitivity of human lung cancer cell lines

    The aim of the present work was to study the role of Rad51-dependent homologous recombination in the radiation response of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines. A dose- and time-dependent increase in the formation of Rad51 and γ-H2AX foci with a maximum at about 4 and 1 h after irradiation, followed by a decrease, has been found. The relative fraction of cells with persisting Rad51 foci was 20–30% in radioresistant and 60–80% in radiosensitive cell lines. In comparison, a higher fraction of residual Dsb was evident in cell lines with nonfunctional p53. Transfection with As-Rad51 significantly downregulates radiation-induced formation of Rad51 foci and increases apoptosis, but did not influence the rejoining of DNA double-strand breaks. Interestingly, wortmannin, a well-known inhibitor of nonhomologous end-joining, also inhibits Rad51 foci formation. In general, there was no correlation between the clonogenic survival at 2 Gy and the percentage of initial Rad51 or γ-H2AX foci after ionising radiation (IR). The most reliable predictive factor for radiosensitivity of NSCLC cell lines was the relative fraction of Rad51 foci remaining at 24 h after IR. Although most of the Rad51 foci are co-localised with γ-H2AX foci, no correlation of the relative fraction of persisting γ-H2AX foci and SF2 is evident
