    We propose a procedure for light-curve solution of eclipsing binary stars in the Small Magellanic Cloud for which photometric data have been obtained in the framework of the OGLE project as well as way of determination of the global stellar parameters on the basis of the obtained solutions, some empirical relations as well as the distance to the SMC.     Profitability of Cotton on a Pest Management Continuum in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh

    The plant protection response of farmers in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh has been examined with particular reference to the adoption of Bt cotton varieties and IPM components. The farmers have been found to follow a wide range of practices to manage the insect pests in cotton. The use of chemical insecticides has accounted for, about 37 per cent of the total variable costs. No significant reduction in plant protection expenditure has been recorded on adoption of Bt varieties without IPM practices. The adoption of IPM practices, however, has led to reduced use of insecticides and increased profitability. The saving on plant protection chemicals has more than compensated the cost of adopting IPM components.     Theoretical Study of Irradiation Effects in Close Binaries

    The effect of irradiation is studied in a close binary systemassuming that the secondary component is a point source, moving in a circularorbit. The irradiation effects are calculatedon the atmosphere of the primary component in a 3-dimensional Cartesiancoordinate geometry. In treating the reflection effect theoretically, the totalradiation (SmathrmT)(S_mathrm{T}) is obtained as the sum of the radiation of 1) the effect ofirradiation on the primary component which is calculated by using onedimensional rod model (Smathrmr)(S_mathrm{r}) and 2) the self radiation of the primarycomponent which is calculated by using the solution of radiative transferequation in spherical symmetry (Smathrms)(S_mathrm{s}). The radiation field is estimated alongthe line of sight of the observer at infinity. It is shown how the radiationfield changes depending on the position of the secondary component

    The modern Aluminium based composites have a great demand in the field of aerospace applications due to their lightweight, high strength, high stiffness, and superior mechanical properties. The main objective is to fabricate the AA2195 composites through Medium Frequency Induction Furnace (MFIF) with Taguchi L16 design of experiments, hot rolling process and heat treatment of composites is done and then compare the mechanical properties of hot rolled and heat treated AA2195 composite with casted composite. It is analyzed the effects of reinforcements like graphite and boron carbide on the mechanical behaviors and microstructure of both AA2195 composites. The microstructures revealed that reinforcements were distributed uniformly throughout the composites. It observed that the elemental investigation on SEM and XRD for both the composites showed that formed intermetallic compounds (IMCs) helped refine the microstructure and further increased the mechanical properties. The hot rolled and heat-treated AA2195 composite fabricated at 8% B4C and 6% Gr exhibits the more enhanced ultimate tensile strength, hardness, and reduction in density, % elongation compared to the casted composite. The rolling process is used to reduce the porosity of the composite. In contrast, heat treatment enhances the composite's mechanical properties like strength and hardness

    Beneficiation studies on beach placer sample for steel making industries

    Beneficiation studies were carried out on the Talashil beach placer sample of South Maharastra Coast, India. The sample contains magnetite, ilmenite, rutile, hematite, goethite and chromite as opaque minerals in the sample. The total heavy minerals fraction reaches 53.8 % by weight whereas the total magnetic minerals are 56.9%. It is observed that the 2nd stage DHIMS magnetic fraction contains 65.2 % Fe2O3 with an over all yield of 37.8 % and a 86 % recovery from a containing 26.8 % Fe2O3 feed. This product can be used in the pellet feed for steel making after suitable blending with high-grade iron ore fines

    Rocket motors that are designed to operate at high altitudes need a nozzle with a large expansion ratio to maximize the thrust at much lower atmospheric pressure than that of the sea level pressure. Accurate performance of these nozzles cannot be obtained when static tested on ground. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses have been performed to characterise the supersonic exhaust diffuser (SED). The results obtained from the CFD analyses have been found to be in good agreement with experimental and numerical values reported in the published literature. Started and un-started regions of the SED have been identified with the CFD results
