Effects of polarisation on study of anomalous VVH interactions at a Linear Collider

We investigate the use of beam polarisation as well as final state τ\tau polarisation effects in probing the interaction of the Higgs boson with a pair of heavy vector bosons in the process e+e−→ffˉHe^+ e^- \to f \bar f H, where ff is any light fermion. The sensitivity of the International Linear Collider (ILC) operating at s=500\sqrt s=500 GeV, to such VVHVVH(V=W/ZV = W/Z) couplings is examined in a model independent way. The effects of ISR and beamstrahlung are discussed.Comment: To appear in the proceedings of 2007 International Linear Collider Workshop (LCWS07 and ILC07), Hamburg, Germany, 30 May - 3 Jun 2007. 4 pages, LaTeX, 1 eps figure. requires ilcws07.cls. included in submissio

    Little Higgs model effects in γγ→γγ\gamma \gamma \to \gamma \gamma

Though the predictions of the Standard Model (SM) are in excellent agreement with experiments there are still several theoretical problems associated with the Higgs sector of the SM, where it is widely believed that some ``{\it new physics}'' will take over at the TeV scale. One beyond the SM theory which resolves these problems is the Little Higgs (LH) model. In this work we have investigated the effects of the LH model on \gggg scattering \cite{Choudhury:2006xa}.Comment: Talk given at LCWS06, Bangalore, 4 pages (style files included

The association of shift work and coronary heart disease risk factors among male factory workers in Kota Bharu, Kelantan

Shift work is one of the work hour systems in which a relay of employees extends the period of production beyond the conventional 8-hour working day. It has been found to be associated with various health problems and there is concern that shift workers are at higher risk to develop risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD). The study was undertaken to examine relationships between shift work and CHD risk factors, namely hypertension, dyslipidaemia (either hypercholesterolaemia, hyper-low density lipoprotein-cholesterolaemia, hypo-high density lipoprotein-cholesterolaemia or hypertriglyceridaemia), high body mass index (BMI), hyperglycemia and physical inactivity among male factory workers in a factory in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. METHODS: This study was a contrived cross-sectional study of 76 shift and 72 day workers from one ofthe factories in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Data was collected through a questionnaire on psychosocial and life-style factors, anthropometric and blood pressure measurement, fasting blood sugar and fasting lipid proJiles analyses. RESULTS: The prevalence of hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, hypertriglyceridaemia and high body mass index (BMO were significantly higher among shift workers compared to day workers. There was no difference in the prevalence of hyperg[ycemia, hypo-high-density lipoprotein-cholesterolaemia, hyper-high-density lipoprotein-cholesterolaemia and physical inactivity. When the shiji workers were compared with the day workers, the aajusted odds ratio (OR) for hypertension, high BMI andphysical inactivity were 9.1 (95% CI 1.4-56.8), 2.9 (95% CI 1.3-6.1) and 7.7 (95% CI 2.1-27.5) respectively. There was neither association of shift work with dyslipidaemia, nor with hyperglycemia. CONCLUSIONS: There were positive association between shiji work and hypertension, high BMI andphysical inactivity which denotes a higher risk of CHD risk factors among shift workers compared to day workers

Signatures of anomalous VVH interactions at a linear collider

We examine, in a model independent way, the sensitivity of a Linear Collider to the couplings of a light Higgs boson to gauge bosons. Including the possibility of CP violation, we construct several observables that probe the different anomalous couplings possible. For an intermediate mass Higgs, a collider operating at a center of mass energy of 500 GeV and with an integrated luminosity of 500 fb−1^{-1} is shown to be able to constrain the ZZHZZH vertex at the few per cent level, and with even higher sensitivity in certain directions. However, the lack of sufficient number of observables as well as contamination from the ZZHZZH vertex limits the precision with which the WWHWWH coupling can be measured.Comment: Typeset in RevTeX4, 16 pages, 12 figures; V2: minor changes in title and Sec. Comments on "Vortex Glass and Lattice Melting Transitions in a YNi_2B_2C Single Crystal"

Recently, Mun et.al. (Phys. Rev. Lett., 76, 2790 (1996)) have published their results on single crystal YNi_2B_2C, claiming that their experimental observations can be explained in terms of formation of Vortex Glass and Lattice melting. Our experiments, carried out on samples obtained from the SAME source, reveal a much richer phase diagram and span wider regions of experimental parameter space than Mun et. al. that encompasses most of their observations. We speculate that this material has anomalous intrinsic properties and the results cannot be explained by simple models about the flux lattice.Comment: 1 page, LaTeX type, 1 PostScript figure, Uses PRABIB.STY file, 600 dpi PS file available at http://sagar.physics.neu.edu/preprints.html To appear in Physical Review Letter
