Delayed Replantation of Avulsed Incisor with Prolonged Extraoral Dry Storage
Trauma to the anterior teeth mainly affects children and adolescents. Tooth avulsion has become a common dental injury, that can occur at any age with maxillary anteriors being commonly affected. It affects the esthetics and psychological well being of both the child and the parent. Management of tooth avulsion in the permanent dentition often presents a challenge to the dental professional. Definitive treatment planning and consultation with specialists is seldom possible at the time of emergency treatment. Replantation of the avulsed tooth is an immediate procedure, which can restore the esthetics, function and create positive impact on patient if carried out under ideal conditions. This article describes the management of a patient with an avulsed maxillary permanent central incisor, that had been stored in unfavorable conditions for about 48 hours. Adequate space maintenance, esthetics and functional requirements of the patient were totally met till a long-term treatment is planned, when the patient finishes his pubertal growth.
Toward the End of Time
The null-brane space-time provides a simple model of a big crunch/big bang
singularity. A non-perturbative definition of M-theory on this space-time was
recently provided using matrix theory. We derive the fermion couplings for this
matrix model and study the leading quantum effects. These effects include
particle production and a time-dependent potential. Our results suggest that as
the null-brane develops a big crunch singularity, the usual notion of
space-time is replaced by an interacting gluon phase. This gluon phase appears
to constitute the end of our conventional picture of space and time.Comment: 31 pages, reference adde
Proposal of a topological M(atrix) theory
Keeping in mind the several models of M(atrix) theory we attempt to
understand the possible structure of the topological M(atrix) theory
``underlying'' these approaches. In particular we are motivated by the issue
about the nature of the structure of the vacuum of the topological M(atrix)
theory and how this could be related to the vacuum of the electroweak theory.
In doing so we are led to a simple topological matrix model. Moreover it is
intuitively expected from the current understanding that the noncommutative
nature of ``spacetime'' and background independence should lead to a
topological Model. The main purpose of this note is to propose a simple
topological Matrix Model which bears relation to F and M theories. Suggestions
on the origin of the chemical potential term appearing in the matrix models are
given.Comment: 14 pages revte
The SU(N) Matrix Model at Two Loops
Multi-loop calculations of the effective action for the matrix model are
important for carrying out tests of the conjectured relationship of the matrix
model to the low energy description of M-theory. In particular, comparison with
N-graviton scattering amplitudes in eleven-dimensional supergravity requires
the calculation of the effective action for the matrix model with gauge group
SU(N). A framework for carrying out such calculations at two loops is
established in this paper. The two-loop effective action is explicitly computed
for a background corresponding to the scattering of a single D0-brane from a
stack of N-1 D0-branes, and the results are shown to agree with known results
in the case N=2.Comment: 30 pages, 1 figure; v2 - typos corrected, references update
A Chiral N=1 Type I Vacuum in Four Dimensions and Its Heterotic Dual
In this paper we consider Type I string theory compactified on a Z_7
orbifold. The model has N=1 supersymmetry, a U(4) \otimes U(4) \otimes U(4)
\otimes SO(8) gauge group, and chiral matter. There are only D9-branes (for
which we discuss tadpole cancellation conditions) in this model corresponding
to a perturbative heterotic description in a certain region of the moduli
space. We construct the heterotic dual, match the perturbative type I and
heterotic tree-level massless spectra via giving certain scalars appropriate
vevs, and point out the crucial role of the perturbative superpotential (on the
heterotic side) for this matching. The relevant couplings in this
superpotential turn out to be non-renormalizable (unlike the Z-orbifold case
discussed in Ref [1], where Yukawa couplings sufficed for duality matching). We
also discuss the role of the anomalous U(1) gauge symmetry present in both type
I and heterotic models. In the perturbative regime we match the (tree-level)
moduli spaces of these models. We point out possible generalizations of the Z_3
and Z_7 cases to include D5-branes which would help in understanding
non-perturbative five-brane dynamics on the heterotic side.Comment: Revtex 3.0, 23 pages, 1 eps figure (to appear in Phys. Rev. D
Molecular targets modulated by fangchinoline in tumor cells and preclinical models
© 2018 MDPI AG. All rights reserved. Despite tremendous progress made during the last few decades in the treatment options for cancer, compounds isolated from Mother Nature remain the mainstay for therapy of various malignancies. Fangchinoline, initially isolated from the dried root of Stephaniae tetrandrine, has been found to exhibit diverse pharmacological effects including significant anticancer activities both in tumor cell lines and selected preclinical models. This alkaloid appears to act by modulating the activation of various important oncogenic molecules involved in tumorigenesis leading to a significant decrease in aberrant proliferation, survival and metastasis of tumor cells. This mini-review briefly describes the potential effects of fangchinoline on important hallmarks of cancer and highlights the molecular targets modulated by this alkaloid in various tumor cell lines and preclinical models
CMB Polarization Data and Galactic Foregrounds: Estimation of Cosmological Parameters
We estimate the accuracy with which various cosmological parameters can be
determined from the CMB temperature and polarization data when various galactic
unpolarized and polarized foregrounds are included and marginalized using the
multi-frequency Wiener filtering technique. We use the specifications of the
future CMB missions MAP and PLANCK for our study. Our results are in
qualitative agreement with earlier results obtained without foregrounds, though
the errors in most parameters are higher because of degradation of the
extraction of polarization signal in the presence of foregrounds.Comment: 6 pages, submitted to MNRA
(Supersymmetric) Kac-Moody Gauge Fields in 3+1 Dimensions
Lagrangians for gauge fields and matter fields can be constructed from the
infinite dimensional Kac-Moody algebra and group. A continuum regularization is
used to obtain such generic lagrangians, which contain new nonlinear and
asymmetric interactions not present in gauge theories based on compact Lie
groups. This technique is applied to deriving the Yang-Mills and Chern-Simons
lagrangians for the Kac-Moody case. The extension of this method to D=4,
N=(1/2,0) supersymmetric Kac-Moody gauge fields is also made.Comment: 21 pages, no figures, latex. Minor change
Some Systematics of the Coupling Constant Dependence of N=4 Yang-Mills
The operator, O_\tau, that generates infinitesimal changes of the coupling
constant in N=4 Yang-Mills sits in the same supermultiplet as the
superconformal currents. We show how superconformal current Ward identities
determine a class of terms in the operator product expansion of O_\tau with any
other operator. In certain cases, this leads to constraints on the coupling
dependence of correlation functions in N=4 Yang-Mills. As an application, we
demonstrate the exact non-renormalization of two and certain three-point
correlation functions of BPS operators.Comment: 56 pages, LaTeX; amended and expanded arguments, added reference
Disordered systems on various time scales: a-Si3B3N7 and homogeneous sintering
Modeling of materials systems for long times commonly requires the use of
separation of time scale methods. We discuss this general approach and present
two example systems, a-Si3B3N7 and the generation of homogeneous sinters.Comment: 22 pages, 7 figure
