Squeezing of electromagnetic field in a cavity by electrons in Trojan states
The notion of the Trojan state of a Rydberg electron, introduced by
I.Bialynicki-Birula, M.Kali\'nski, and J.H.Eberly (Phys. Rev. Lett. 73, 1777
(1994)) is extended to the case of the electromagnetic field quantized in
acavity. The shape of the electronic wave packet describing the Trojan state is
practically the same as in the previously studied externally driven system. The
fluctuations of the quantized electromagnetic field around its classical value
exhibit strong squeezing. The emergence of Trojan states in the cylindrically
symmetrical system is attributed to spontaneous symmetry braking.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figure
Collinear helium under periodic driving: stabilization of the asymmetric stretch orbit
The collinear eZe configuration of helium, with the electrons on opposite
sides of the nucleus, is studied in the presence of an external electromagnetic
(laser or microwave) field. We show that the classically unstable "asymmetric
stretch" orbit, on which doubly excited intrashell states of helium with
maximum interelectronic angle are anchored, can be stabilized by means of a
resonant driving where the frequency of the electromagnetic field equals the
frequency of Kepler-like oscillations along the orbit. A static magnetic field,
oriented parallel to the oscillating electric field of the driving, can be used
to enforce the stability of the configuration with respect to deviations from
collinearity. Quantum Floquet calculations within a collinear model of the
driven two-electron atom reveal the existence of nondispersive wave packets
localized on the stabilized asymmetric stretch orbit, for double excitations
corresponding to principal quantum numbers of the order of N > 10.Comment: 13 pages, 12 figure
Avian Feathers as Bioindicators of the Exposure to Heavy Metal Contamination of Food
The aim of this study was to determine the possibility of using feathers of blue tit nestlings to assess the level of endogenous accumulation of lead. For this purpose we conducted an experiment with lead application to randomly chosen nestlings from eight randomly drawn broods. Five days after the exposure, feathers of lead-treated nestlings had significantly higher lead concentrations than control nestlings. This result suggests that feathers can be used as reliable non-destructive bioindicators to assess the level of heavy metals originating from contaminated food, which is of great significance for comparative studies on ecological consequences of pollution
Examples of a use of the optimal control at energy performance index in mechatronic approach
Purpose of the paper is to present some examples of application of the optimal control at energy performance index in mechatronic solutions. In the paper were presented methods of vibration surveillance of mechanical systems idealised discretely. These methods were applied in robotics (industrial robots) as well as – for high speed ball end milling processes of flexible details. As example of non-linear system, a possibility of the use of optimal control at energy performance index for wheeled robots was presented
Tribological effects of ion implantation of Inconel 600
Commercial Inconel 600 nickel-chromium alloy was implanted with nitrogen, chromium, titanium, yttrium and copper with tin (as bronze components) ions to doses ranging from 1.6e17 to 3.5e17 cm-2. The main goal of the research was to investigate the properties of the modified alloy in the context of its application in foil bearings. The virgin and the treated samples were tribologically tested and examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The technological studies were preceded by modelling of concentration values of the introduced elements. The results obtained with the use of ion implantation are discussed
Nadzorowanie procesów dynamicznych w wybranych układach mechatronicznych
The paper concerns development of original method of optimal control at energy performance index and its application to dynamic processes surveillance of some mechatronic systems. The latter concerns chatter vibration surveillance during highspeed slender milling of rigid details, as well as motion control of two-wheeled mobile platform. Results of on-line computer simulations and real performance on the target objects reflect a great efficiency of the processes surveillance.Artykuł poświęcony jest przedstawieniu oryginalnej metody sterowania optymalnego z wykorzystaniem energetycznego wskaźnika jakości i jej zastosowaniu do nadzorowania procesów dynamicznych w wybranych systemach mechatronicznych. W szczególności dotyczy to nadzorowania drgań chatter podczas obróbki szybkościowej przedmiotów sztywnych z wykorzystaniem narzędzi smukłych oraz sterowania ruchem dwukołowej platformy mobilnej. Rezultaty symulacji komputerowych oraz przeprowadzone badania eksperymentalne na rzeczywistych obiektach pokazują dużą efektywność proponowanej metody
