    Exploring adoption of smart glasses: applications in medical industry

Although varied smart glasses were examined in the process by literature review, in whole work M100 was used as a physical product. In this research study, three research methods were applied. These are semi-structured in-depth interview, expert focus group work and experimental study 95 constructs were extracted from literature review and interviews by physicians. Approximately 40 most significant constructs were selected by physicians in the expert focus group work. At the end, 75 physicians answered a survey related with these 40 constructs. Furthermore, these constructs include the most significant design inputs of smart glasses for the expert group. The survey included approximately 50 questions. According to survey and results of multiple regression analyses; it is revealed that compatibility, ease of reminding, speech recognition and ease of use affect usefulness positively. Moreover, ease of learning, ease of medical education, external influence and privacy affect ease of use positively too. In addition, usefulness, ease of use affect attitude and attitude affects intention. To sum up, designers should focus on these design inputs at the first stage of product development process of smart glasses for physicians

    Dyslipidemia prevalence in nonobese, nondiabetic patients with obstructive sleep apnea: does sex matter?

    STUDY OBJECTIVES: Dyslipidemia in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been attributed to confounding obesity and/or diabetes. This study aimed to examine lipid profiles in nondiabetic, nonobese patients with OSA and identify the possible effects of age and sex. METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated the lipid parameters of 3,050 adults who underwent polysomnography. A total of 2,168 patients were excluded due to obesity (body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2), diabetes, alcoholism, untreated hypothyroidism, lipid-lowering drug use, missing sleep data, or treatment for suspected OSA. RESULTS: Of 882 patients (75% males, aged 46.8 ± 12.2 years) included in the study, 88.4% had OSA. Levels of total cholesterol (P = .003), low-density-lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (P = .005), non-high-density-lipoprotein (non-HDL) cholesterol (P = .001), and triglycerides (P = .007) were significantly higher in patients with OSA than in those without, whereas HDL-cholesterol levels did not differ. The proportion of patients with hypercholesterolemia and/or elevated non-HDL cholesterol (>  160 mg/dL) was significantly higher in OSA than in non-OSA. Correlation analyses by sex revealed stronger and more significant relationships between lipid parameters and apnea-hypopnea index in women than in men (r = .135, P .001, vs r = .080, P = .043 for total cholesterol; r = .111, P .001, vs r = .080, P = .046 for non-HDL cholesterol; r = .122, P .001, vs r = .061, P = .107 for LDL cholesterol, respectively). In regression analysis, the rate of hypercholesterolemia increased with age (P .001 for women and P = .031 for men); non-HDL- and LDL-cholesterol levels significantly increased with OSA severity (P = .035 and P = .023, respectively) and age (P = .004 and P = .001, respectively) in women. CONCLUSIONS: After excluding confounding obesity and diabetes, patients with OSA have an impaired lipid profile including total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides.     Protoporphyrin IX-loaded magnetoliposomes as a potential drug delivery system for photodynamic therapy: Fabrication, characterization and in vitro study

    Protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) is a well-known photosensitizer that has great potential for use in photodynamic therapy (PDT). However, aggregation behavior of PpIX in neutral water makes it inappropriate for physiological studies. PpIX-loaded magnetoliposomes (MLs) were fabricated to increase PpIX biocompatibility. PpIX-loaded ML physical properties were characterized, and PpIX-loaded ML drug release behavior was investigated under the influence of an external magnetic field and heat. Toxicity and photodynamic effects of the complex were also examined using in vitro experiments with MCF-7 human breast cancer cells. The magnetoliposomes were prepared with DPPC, DSPE-PEG2000 lipids and Fe3O4 nanoparticles.     Comparative Investigation on Magnetic Behavior of Partial Rare Earth Element (Re: Lu, Yb, and Dy) Substituted Y0.5Re0.5BCO (123) Superconductors

    Partial Re (rare earth elements: Lu, Yb and Dy) substituted YBaCuO (123) superconductors synthesized by solid-state reaction (SSR) procedure have been investigated via x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, a.c. magnetic susceptibility, and d.c. magnetization, and calculations. The measurements of a.c. magnetic susceptibility have been carried out at constant a.c. field amplitude and constant frequency for the samples studied. The temperature dependence of intergranular critical current density (Jcm) has been estimated from the a.c. magnetic susceptibility data. The d.c. magnetization measurements were performed at the temperatures of 5 K, 20 K, and 77 K separately. The variation of critical current density (Jc) with magnetic field (µ0H) has been evaluated from the d.c. magnetization data by using upper and lower branch of the major hysteresis curve. Lu substituted Y0.5Lu0.5BCO (123) sample shows higher critical current density than Yb and Dy substituted samples at low-temperature (lower than 77 K) regions. © 2019, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature
