Results of the Groundwater Quality Assessment Program at the 216-A-29 Ditch RCRA Facility
This report presents the findings of the groundwater quality assessment program for the 216-A-29 Ditch. The information presented in this report Ditch have affected the quality of the groundwater in the unconfined aquifer beneath the facility. The results indicate that the 216-A-29 Ditch is the source of elevated specific conductance in well 299-E25-35 and that the source is nonhazardous. This report describes the current monitoring status of the 216-A-29 Ditch, groundwater chemical data interpretation, and recommends the reinstatement of an indicator-evaluation monitoring program in accordance with 40 CFR 265.93(d)(6)
Generation and orientation of organoxenon molecule HâXeâCCH in the gas phase
We report on the first observation of the organoxenon HXeCCH molecule in the gas phase. This molecule has been prepared in a molecular beam experiment by 193 nm photolysis of an acetylene molecule on Xen clusters (ÂŻn â 390). Subsequently the molecule has been oriented via the pseudofirst-order Stark effect in a strong electric field of the polarized laser light combined with the weak electrostatic field in the extraction region of a time-of-flight spectrometer. The experimental evidence for the oriented molecule has been provided by measurements of its photodissociation. For comparison, photolysis of CâHâ on Arn clusters (ÂŻn â 280) has been measured. Here the analogous rare gas molecule HArCCH could not be generated. The interpretation of our experimental findings has been supported by ab initio calculations. In addition, the experiment together with the calculations reveals information on the photochemistry of the HXeCCH molecule. The 193 nm radiation excites the molecule predominantly into the 2Âčââș state, which cannot dissociate the Xe-H bond directly, but the system evolves along the Xe-C coordinate to a conical intersection of a slightly non-linear configuration with the dissociative 1Âčâ state, which then dissociates the Xe-H bond

Controls, LLRF, and instrumentation systems for ILC test facilities at Fermilab
The major controls and instrumentation systems for the ILC test areas and the NML test accelerator at Fermilab are discussed. The test areas include 3 separate areas for Vertical Superconducting RF Cavity Testing, Horizontal Cavity Testing, and NML RF and beam test area. A common control infrastructure for the test areas including a controls framework, electronic logbook and cavity database will be provided, while supporting components supplied by collaborators with diverse areas of expertise (EPICS, DOOCS, LabVIEW, and Matlab). The discussions on the instrumentation systems are focused on overview and requirements
Adapting SAM for CDF
The CDF and D0 experiments probe the high-energy frontier and as they do so
have accumulated hundreds of Terabytes of data on the way to petabytes of data
over the next two years. The experiments have made a commitment to use the
developing Grid based on the SAM system to handle these data. The D0 SAM has
been extended for use in CDF as common patterns of design emerged to meet the
similar requirements of these experiments. The process by which the merger was
achieved is explained with particular emphasis on lessons learned concerning

A pilot study: Comparing a novel noninvasive measure of cerebrovascular stability index with an invasive measure of cerebral autoregulation in neonates with congenital heart disease
Infants with congenital heart disease (CHD) may have impaired cerebral autoregulation (CA) associated with cerebral fractional tissue oxygen extraction (FTOE). We conducted a pilot study in nine CHD neonates to validate a noninvasive CA measure, cerebrovascular stability index (CSI), by eliciting responses to postural tilts. We compared CSI to an invasive measure of CA and to FTOE collected during tilts (FTOESpot). FTOESpot correlated with CSI, as did the change in FTOE during tilts, but CSIâs correlation with impaired CA did not reach significance. Larger trials are indicated to validate CSI, allowing for noninvasive CA measurements and measurements in outpatient settings

FASTBUS Standard Routines implementation for Fermilab embedded processor boards
In collaboration with CEBAF, Fermilab`s Online Support Department and the CDF experiment have produced a new implementation of the IEEE FASTBUS Standard Routines for two embedded processor FASTBUS boards: the Fermilab Smart Crate Controller (FSCC) and the FASTBUS Readout Controller (FRC). Features of this implementation include: portability (to other embedded processor boards), remote source-level debugging, high speed, optional generation of very high-speed code for readout applications, and built-in Sun RPC support for execution of FASTBUS transactions and lists over the network
