Telomere regulation and function during meiosis.

    No full text
Telomeres are essential for genomic stability and their dysfunction has been implicated in cancer and ageing. The most prominent function of the telomeres is to protect chromosome ends against degradation and fusion, which, in turn, requires maintenance of telomere DNA to a critical length that allows assembly of end-capping structures. During early meiosis, telomeres play the distinctive function of anchoring chromosomes to the inner nuclear membrane. Subsequently, as a consequence of the nuclear membrane polarization, telomeres cluster together into a bouquet configuration, which facilitates pairing and recombination of the homologous chromosomes. Here we review how the two fundamental aspects of telomere maintenance, elongation and protection, contribute to the essential functions performed by telomeres during meiosis

Un estudio sobre los adolescentes en conflicto con la ley penal A study of adolescents in conflict with the criminal law

The considerations are relected here, are the product of research UBACYT called "Study of representations in adolescents in conlict with the law, " which is in development. Currently, crimes against persons where minors are involved has resulted in great social demand in the sense of claiming eficient and effective actions aimed at addressing emerging situations related to the transgression of adolescents to the criminal law. So, to achieve an adequate approach to the problems of adolescents in conlict with the law, it is considered necessary to balance - in addition to social, economic, political and psychological, in which adolescents are developed, the representations that they about themselves and the variables that can promote and / or prevent deploy adaptive behavior and / or maladaptive

Response of Plasma-Polymerized Hexamethyldisiloxane Films to Aqueous Environments

    No full text
Thin plasma polymer films were deposited in hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO) and HMDSO/O2 low-pressure discharges and their chemical structures analyzed using infrared (IR) spectroscopy and neutron reflectometry (NR). The (plasma-polymerized) ppHMDSO film exhibits hydrophobic, poly(dimethylsiloxane)-like properties, while the retention of carbon groups is reduced by O2 addition, yielding a more inorganic, hydrophilic ppSiOx film. Both films show a minor (vertical) density gradient perpendicular to the substrate, where the exposed film surface seems to be more oxidized, indicating oxidative aging reactions upon contact with air. The hydration and water uptake abilities of the films in aqueous environments were investigated in humid environments using ellipsometry, NR in D2O, and multiple transmission-reflection IR measurements after equilibration of the films in water.ISSN:0743-7463ISSN:1520-582
