    Phosphorene-AsP Heterostructure as a Potential Excitonic Solar Cell Material - A First Principles Study

    Solar energy conversion to produce electricity using photovoltaics is an emerging area in alternative energy research. Herein, we report on the basis of density functional calculations, phosphorene/AsP heterostructure could be a promising material for excitonic solar cells (XSCs). Our HSE06 functional calculations show that the band gap of both phosphorene and AsP fall exactly into the optimum value range according to XSCs requirement. The calculated effective mass of electrons and holes show anisotropic in nature with effective masses along Γ{\Gamma}-X direction is lower than the Γ{\Gamma}-Y direction and hence the charge transport will be faster along Γ{\Gamma}-X direction. The wide energy range of light absorption confirms the potential use of these materials for solar cell applications. Interestingly, phosphorene and AsP monolayer forms a type-II band alignment which will enhance the separation of photogenerated charge carriers and hence the recombination rate will be lower which can further improve its photo-conversion efficiency if one use it in XSCs

    Bridge Correlational Neural Networks for Multilingual Multimodal Representation Learning

    Recently there has been a lot of interest in learning common representations for multiple views of data. Typically, such common representations are learned using a parallel corpus between the two views (say, 1M images and their English captions). In this work, we address a real-world scenario where no direct parallel data is available between two views of interest (say, V1V_1 and V2V_2) but parallel data is available between each of these views and a pivot view (V3V_3). We propose a model for learning a common representation for V1V_1, V2V_2 and V3V_3 using only the parallel data available between V1V3V_1V_3 and V2V3V_2V_3. The proposed model is generic and even works when there are nn views of interest and only one pivot view which acts as a bridge between them. There are two specific downstream applications that we focus on (i) transfer learning between languages L1L_1,L2L_2,...,LnL_n using a pivot language LL and (ii) cross modal access between images and a language L1L_1 using a pivot language L2L_2. Our model achieves state-of-the-art performance in multilingual document classification on the publicly available multilingual TED corpus and promising results in multilingual multimodal retrieval on a new dataset created and released as a part of this work.Comment: Published at NAACL-HLT 201

    A United Kingdom survey of surgical technique and handling practice of inguinal canal structures during hernia surgery

    Background: Recent trials have assessed the impact of elective nerve division on patient outcome after inguinal herniorrhaphy. The aim of this study was to establish UK surgical practice of handling of structures in the inguinal canal during herniorrhaphy. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of all Fellows (n = 1113) of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI) was performed. The main outcomes were to determine method of inguinal hernia repair and routine practice for intra-operative handling of structures in the inguinal canal. Results: A total of 852 (77%) questionnaires were returned, of which 784 (92%) surgeons performed inguinal herniorrhaphy. Approximately two-thirds (63%) of responding surgeons performed less than 50 procedures per annum and 37% conducted more than 50 procedures annually. Mesh was the preferred method used by 90% of surgeons; 6% used non-mesh, and 4% used other (laparoscopic) methods. Routine practice in relation to the inguinal structures varied by volume of hernia surgery; surgeons who conducted more than 50 procedures annually were more likely to visualize and preserve inguinal nerve structures. However, inconsistency in the answers suggested confusion over anatomy. Conclusion: This is the first UK survey to investigate method of hernia repair and usual handling practice of inguinal canal structures. There was wide acceptance of the use of mesh in inguinal hernia repair, with the majority of UK surgeons favoring an open approach. Surgeons performing high volumes of herniorrhaphy were more likely to preserve, rather than transect, inguinal nerve structures. This variation in practice may confound assessment of long-term neuralgia and other post-herniorrhaphy pain syndromes

    In this paper, we present the next-to-leading order QCD corrections for di-lepton, di-electroweak boson (ZZ, W+W-) production in both the SM and the ADD model, matched to the HERWIG parton-shower using the aMC@NLO framework.     Unparticle physics in diphoton production at the CERN LHC

    We have considered the di-photon production with unparticle at LHC. The contributions of spin-0 and spin-2 unparticle to the di-photon production are studied in the invariant mass and other kinematical distributions, along with their dependencies on the model dependent parameters.     Pseudo-scalar Higgs Boson Production at Threshold N3^3LO and N3^3LL QCD

    We present the first results on the production of pseudo-scalar through gluon fusion at the LHC to N3^3LO in QCD taking into account only soft gluon effects. We have used the effective Lagrangian that describes the coupling of pseudo-scalar with the gluons in the large top quark mass limit. We have used recently available quantities namely the three loop pseudo-scalar form factor and the third order universal soft function in QCD to achieve this. Along with the fixed order results, we also present the process dependent resummation coefficient for threshold resummation to N3^3LL in QCD. Phenomenological impact of these threshold N3^3LO corrections to pseudo-scalar production at the LHC is presented and their role to reduce the renormalisation scale dependence is demonstrated.Comment: 34 pages, 17 figure

Metal composites possess significantly improved properties including high tensile strength , toughness, hardness, low density and good wear resistance compared to alloys or any other metals .By increasing the content of Zirconium and Chromium in AA 7075 metal matrix composites corrosion resistance is increased.  Modified stir casting method is used for the even distribution of Zirconium and Chromium in AA7075 metal matrix composites. Ultimate tensile strength of AA7075 metal matrix composite improved by increasing the content of Zirconium and compared with unreinforced alloy of aluminum. Hardness and tensile strength of AA7075 composites is increased where ductility is decreased .Hence composites AA7075 metal matrix to enhance the mechanical and physical properties for widely used in the automobile and spacecraft applications to improve fuel efficiency.
