A systematic review of recommended modifications of CBT for people with cognitive impairments following brain injury
Due to diverse cognitive, emotional and interpersonal changes that can follow brain injury, psychological therapies often need to be adapted to suit the complex needs of this population. The aims of the study were to synthesise published recommendations for therapy modifications following brain injury from non-progressive traumatic, vascular, or metabolic causes and to determine how often such modifications have been applied to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for post-injury emotional adjustment problems. A systematic review and narrative synthesis of therapy modifications recommended in review articles and reported in intervention studies was undertaken. Database and manual searches identified 688 unique papers of which eight review articles and 16 intervention studies met inclusion criteria. The review articles were thematically analysed and a checklist of commonly recommended modifications composed. The checklist items clustered under themes of: therapeutic education and formulation; attention; communication; memory; and executive functioning. When this checklist was applied to the intervention studies, memory aids and an emphasis on socialising patients to the CBT model were most frequently reported as adaptations. It was concluded that the inconsistent reporting of psychological therapy adaptations for people with brain injury is a barrier to developing effective and replicable therapies. Fano Lineshapes Revisited: Symmetric Photoionization Peaks from Pure Continuum Excitation
In a photoionization spectrum in which there is no excitation of the discrete
states, but only the underlying continuum, we have observed resonances which
appear as symmetric peaks, not the commonly expected window resonances.
Furthermore, since the excitation to the unperturbed continuum vanishes, the
cross section expected from Fano's configuration interaction theory is
identically zero. This shortcoming is removed by the explicit introduction of
the phase shifted continuum, which demonstrates that the shape of a resonance,
by itself, provides no information about the relative excitation amplitudes to

Responses of Hyalella azteca and Ceridaphnia dubia to reservoir sediments following Chelated Copper Herbicide Applications
In response to nuisance growths of algae and vascular
plants, such as dioecious hydrilla (
Hydrilla verticillata
L.f.
Royle), copper formulations have been applied in lakes and
reservoirs for a number of years. Concerns have arisen regarding
the long-term consequences of copper applications
and those concerns have appropriately focused on sediment
residues. In this study, we evaluated the toxicity of sediments
from treated (for a decade) and untreated areas in Lake
Murray, South Carolina and estimated the capacity of those
sediments to bind additional copper. Two sentinel aquatic invertebrates,
Hyalella azteca
Saussure and
Ceriodaphnia dubia
Richard, were used to measure residual toxicity of treated
and untreated sediments from the field and after laboratory

The work is this reporting period was concentrated on electronically calibrating the bolometer detectors. The calibration is necessary for two reasons: first, the power delivered to the rectifying circuit must be known in order to choose a diode with the appropriate barrier height, and second, the power captured by the antenna must be measured if the efficiency of the rectenna is to be divided into antenna efficiency and rectification efficiency. The millimeter wave region operation of the bolometers was simulated with a VHF (10 to 90 MHz) test signal. These detectors are accurate to within roughly 10%. The typical responsivity of the bolometers is 10 volts/watt and the NEP at 20 Hz is 5 times 10 to the minus 9th power W(Hz)-1/2

The work performed in this reporting period has concentrated on the metal-oxide-metal (MOM) diode. The fabrication procedure begins with the deposition of gold probing pads to provide a non-oxidizing contact to test the dc characteristics to the diode accurately. A thin patch capped with an insulating SiO2 layer, is deposited next to form the first half of the diode. The other half of the diode, typically Ni, is deposited completing the conduction path from the oxidized edge of the Ni patch to the opposite gold probing pad. It is important in this step that the last metallization take place without exposing the newly oxidized surface to the atmosphere. Successful production of diodes has been achieved. Work on millimeter wave frequency rectennas incorporating known semiconductor diode technology has been initiated
Technology for satellite power conversion
Components were examined that will be needed for high frequency rectenna devices. The majority of the effort was spent on measuring the directivity and efficiency of the half-wave dipole antenna. It is felt that the antenna and diode should be roughly optimized before they are combined into a rectenna structure. An integrated low pass filter had to be added to the antenna structure in order to facilitate the field pattern measurements. A calculation was also made of the power density of the Earth's radiant energy as seen by satellites in Earth orbit. Finally, the feasibility of using a Metal-Oxide-Metal (MOM) diode for rectification of the received power was assessed
