    Hierarchies of primitive recursive wordsequence functions: Comparisons and decision problems

    AbstractIn this paper we consider wordsequence functions, i.e., functions of the type ƒ: Σ∗′ → Σ∗‵ where Σ is a finite alphabet and r ⩾ 0, s > 0. By starting with finite sets of basic functions and by taking the closure with respect to composition, cylindrification and iteration, we give some characterizations of primitive recursive wordsequence functions. We define some hierarchies of length ω2 of these functions by bounding the number of successive compositions and the depth of the nested iterations in the definitions of the functions. In such a manner we obtain refinements of the Axt, Grzegorczyk and Meyer and Ritchie generalized hierarchies of length ω of primitive recursive wordfunctions defined by Von Henke, Indermark and Weihrauch (1972).We consider Loop programs on words (see Ausiello and Moscarini (1976)) by allowing more than one output register, and we prove that the class of functions computed by these programs coincides with the class of primitive recursive wordsequence functions. The hierarchies of functions induce some hierarchies of programs.For the case of functions ƒ: Σ∗′ → Σ∗, our hierarchies are compared with the Axt et al. generalized hierarchies.We also compare our hierarchies with storage hierarchies, and we analyze the power of the Loop programs as acceptors.Finally, we state some decidability results for the considered classes

    Identified Hadrons and Jet Chemistry for p+p and Au+Au Collisions at RHIC

    The study of hadron spectra at high pTp_{T} in p+p collisions provides a good test of perturbative quantum chromo-dynamic calculations (pQCD) and baseline for measurements of nuclear modification factors in Au+Au collisions. Using events triggered by the Barrel Electro-Magnetic Calorimeter, identified charged hadron transverse momentum (pTp_T) spectra are measured up to 15 GeV/cc at mid-rapidity (y\mid y\mid << 0.5) and neutral kaon pTp_T spectra up to 12 GeV/cc in p + p collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV. The particle ratios of p/π+p/\pi^{+}, pˉ/π\bar{p}/\pi^{-} and K±,0K^{\pm,0} / π±\pi^{\pm} in p + p collisions are shown and compared with next-to-leading order pQCD calculations. In central Au+Au collisions, we report nuclear modification factors (RAAR_{AA}) for pion, kaon, proton and ρ\rho and discuss several model calculations: color-charge dependence of jet quenching and jet conversion. Finally, centrality dependence of RAAR_{AA} at high pTp_T (>> 5.5 GeV/c) for kaon are compared with that of pion in Au + Au collisions at 200 GeV.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, SQM 2009 contributio

    Fauna do solo e suas relações com atributos físico-químicos.

    Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a diversidade da fauna edáfica e suas relações com os atributos físico-químicos. Foram escolhidas sete áreas, representativas da região Oeste do estado de Santa Catarina (região de Chapecó, SC), abrangendo as seguintes condições de uso: 1) Plantio convencional com rotação de culturas (PCRC1); 2) Plantio direto com rotação de culturas (PDRC2); 3) Plantio convencional com sucessão de cultura (PCSC3); 4) Plantio direto com sucessão de culturas (PDSC4); 5) Cultivo mínimo com sucessão de culturas (CMSC5); 6) Plantio direto com sucessão de culturas (PDSC6) e 7) Plantio direto com sucessão de cultura (PDSC7). Foram analisados nos mesmos pontos de coleta a fauna edáfica e atributos físico-químicos e microbiológicos do solo. Alguns grupos da fauna edáfica apresentaram potencial para serem usados como indicadores da qualidade do solo, pois se mostraram sensíveis ao sistema de preparo e cultivo do solo. Ao considerarmos todos os atributos edáficos, o tratamento PDRC2 ficou mais afastado dos outros com melhores condições físico-químicas e biológicas do solo, em comparação aos demais, especialmente CMSC5 e PDSC6

    K*(892)0 Production in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV

    Preliminary results on the K*(892)0 -> pi + K production using the mixed-event technique are presented. The measurements are performed at mid-rapidity by the STAR detector in sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV Au-Au collisions at RHIC. The K*0 to negative hadron, kaon and phi ratios are obtained and compared to the measurements in e+e-, pp and pbarp at various energies.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, proceedings of Strange Quarks in Matter (SQM2001), Frankfurt am Main, Germany, to be published in J.     Recent results on rho(770)^0, K(892)^*0, f_0(980), phi(1020), Delta(1232)^++, and Lambda(1520) production in A+A and p+p collisions at SPS and RHIC energies are presented. These resonances are measured via their hadronic decay channels and used as a sensitive tool to examine the collision dynamics in the hadronic medium through their decay and regeneration.     Indication for π+π\pi^+ \pi^- scattering in p+pp+p collisions at sNN=\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}} = 200 GeV

    A ρ(770)0\rho(770)^0 mass shift of about -40 MeV/c2c^2 was measured in p+pp+p collisions at sNN=\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}} = 200 GeV at RHIC. Previous mass shifts have been observed at CERN-LEBC-EHS and CERN-LEP. We will show that phase space does not account for the ρ(770)0\rho(770)^0 mass shift measured at RHIC, CERN-LEBC-EHS and CERN-LEP and conclude that there are significant scattering interactions in p+pp+p collisions.Comment: 11 pages and 7 figure

    Ecotoxicological aspects related to the presence of pharmaceuticals in the aquatic environment

    Pharmaceuticals are biologically active and persistent substances which have been recognized as a continuing threat to environmental stability. Chronic ecotoxicity data as well as information on the current distribution levels in different environmental compartments continue to be sparse and are focused on those therapeutic classes that are more frequently prescribed and consumed. Nevertheless, they indicate the negative impact that these chemical contaminants may have on living organisms, ecosystems and ultimately, public health. This article reviews the different contamination sources as well as fate and both acute and chronic effects on non-target organisms. An extensive review of existing data in the form of tables, encompassing many therapeutic classes is presented

    Desempenho de bovinos cruzados, machos não castrados e fêmeas, terminados em confinamento.

    O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho em confinamento de 27 machos não castrados e 31 fêmeas filhos de vacas ½ Angus x ½ Nelore e vacas ½ Simental x ½ Nelore, inseminadas com sêmen de touros das raças Angus e Limousin. Os animais foram mantidos em baias individuais descobertas com consumo ad libitum. Os machos apresentaram maior peso (P&#8804;0,05) vivo inicial e final (242,4 e 450,4 kg, respectivamente), quando comparados às fêmeas (221,6 e 374,6 kg, respectivamente). O ganho médio diário de peso dos machos (1,579 kg) foi maior (P&#8804;0,05) que o das fêmeas (1,226 kg). A conversão alimentar foi de 6,455 kg/kg para machos e de 7,282 kg/kg para fêmeas. Os machos apresentaram maior média (P&#8804;0,05) de rendimento de carcaça quente do que as fêmeas (57,25% e 54,93%, respectivamente).
