Direct CP Violation in Charmless B Decays at LHCb

Using data collected by LHCb experiment in 2011 we report the measurements of charge asymmetries in charmless decays of B mesons in two or three charged kaons or pions. We find positive charge asymmetries in the channels Bs->K-pi+(3.3 sigmas), B+->K+pi+pi- (2.8 sigmas), and B+->pi+pi+pi- (4.2 sigmas) and negative in B0->K+pi-(6 sigmas),B+->K+K+K- (3.7 sigma), B+->K+K-pi+ (3.0 sigma).Comment: Proceedings of CKM 2012, the 7th International Workshop on the CKM Unitarity Triangle, University of Cincinnati, USA, 28 September - 2 October 201

Geography of affections: tales of identity, diaspora and travel in the work of Monica de Miranda

My research has been a critical analysis, developed from the perspective of my own artistic interventions, dialogue and debate, gained through my practice as an artist. As part of my investigation, I have developed a series of artworks utilising video and photography. The work deals with issues of migration, family, home, place, identity and travel in connection to my own biography. I have undertaken four research field trips to Brazil, London, Angola, Cape Verde and Portugal. In order to create my practical research work, I participated in programmes of residencies with galleries and foundations in those countries and I have also worked with my own family network. I have been analyzing theoretical issues related to auto-biography and identity in relation to alterity, diaspora, and hybridity within contemporary post colonial art practices. I have examined theories raised by my artwork in relation to notions of travel and migration and to psychoanalytical theory , film studies, feminist postcolonial theory and psycho- geography, I connected these notions to concepts of post-modern theories. Subsequently I have been examining models of the artist as a producer, researcher, traveller, and self-ethnographer. The work that I have developed for this research are: An Ocean Between Us (2012) a short video work and some photographs connect to this work; a series of photographs entitled Erosion (2013) and the main installation piece of the research, Once Upon a Time (2012), a tryptic video. I presented the work I have been producing for my practice-based research in three exhibitions in Lisbon, Portugal in October and November 2012 respectively in Carpe Diem and Plataforma Revolver, and in January 2013 at the gallery Appleton square

On Galois-Division Multiple Access Systems: Figures of Merit and Performance Evaluation

A new approach to multiple access based on finite field transforms is investigated. These schemes, termed Galois-Division Multiple Access (GDMA), offer compact bandwidth requirements. A new digital transform, the Finite Field Hartley Transform (FFHT) requires to deal with fields of characteristic p, p \neq 2. A binary-to-p-ary (p \neq 2) mapping based on the opportunistic secondary channel is introduced. This allows the use of GDMA in conjunction with available digital systems. The performance of GDMA is also evaluated.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures. In: XIX Simposio Brasileiro de Telecomunicacoes, 2001, Fortaleza, CE, Brazi

    Extracting CKM γ\gamma phase from B±→K±π+π−B^{\pm} \to K^{\pm} \pi^+ \pi^- and B0B^0, Bˉ0→Ksπ+π−\bar B^0 \to K_s \pi^+ \pi^-

We discuss some aspects of the search for CP asymmetry in the three body B decays, revealed through the interference among neighbor resonances in the Dalitz plot. We propose a competitive method to extract the CKM γ\gamma angle combining Dalitz plot amplitude analysis of B±→K±π+π−B^{\pm} \to K^{\pm} \pi^+ \pi^- and untagged B0B^0, Bˉ0→Ksπ+π−\bar B^0 \to K_s \pi^+ \pi^-. The method also obtains the ratio and phase difference between the {\it tree} and {\it penguin} contributions from B0B^0 and Bˉ0→K∗±π∓\bar B^0 \to K^{*\pm} \pi^{\mp} decays and the CP asymmetry between B0B^0 and B0ˉ\bar{B^0}. From Monte Carlo studies of 100K events for the neutral mesons, we show the possibility of measuring γ\gamma.Comment: Revised enlarged version to appear at Phys Rev

Phase motion in the Z−(4430)Z^-(4430) amplitude in B0→ψ′π−K+B^0\to\psi^\prime\pi^-K^+ decay

In view of the proliferation in the number of new charmonium states, it is really important to have a experimental way to prove that an observed bump is, indeed, a real resonance. To do that, in this paper we present an alternative method to demonstrate the resonant behavior of a state. With this method, the phase variation of a generic complex amplitude can be directly revealed through interference in the Dalitz-plot region where it crosses a well established resonant state, used as a probe. We have tested the method for the Z−(4430)Z^-(4430) state by generating Monte Carlo samples for the B0→ψ′π−K+B^0\to \psi^\prime \pi^-K^+ decay channel. We have shown that the proposed method gives a clear oscillation behavior, related to the phase variation associated to a real resonant state, in the case where the Z−(4430)Z^-(4430) is considered as a regular resonance with a strong phase variation. We have also discussed the possibility of using the proposed method complementary to the Argand diagram to determine the internal structure of the Z−(4430)Z^-(4430) state.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures -- submitted to Phys.
