    Get PDF
Time of survival and infectivity of Trichinella spiralis larvae in pig muscle tissue, buried at various depths in the ground were assessed. In the pork pieces the number of infective larvae was 250 ML/g. Meat originated from pig halves was divided in 39 equal pieces, 0.7 kg each, disposed in three groups of 13, and buried in depths of 30, 50, and 100 centimeters respectively. The pork was dug up at 13 intervals, approximately every week, until 91(st) day of the experiment. After each time interval, infectivity of larvae was assessed by bioassay on rats. The artificially infected rats were sacrificed on 42(nd) day after the infection and meat was examined by the following methods - artificial digestion and trichinoscopy. It was found that the larvae during all 90 days preserved infectivity in each depth

This paper looks at six different applications for a domestically located battery system and determines how these could be translated into different electrical power application ā€œdriveā€ cycles. The applications considered are as follows: 1) A house with four people and a solar panel using the battery to absorb extra energy when the PV panel is producing more power than is absorbed in the house and then releasing this energy afterwards. 2) A house with four people and PV panels on a time of use tariff. 3) A house with four people and no PV on a time of use Tariff ā€“ where the battery is charged at low tariff and discharged on high tariff. 4) The battery is operating as part of an aggregated frequency response system performing on the Firm Frequency Response (FFR) market. 5)The battery is operating as part of an aggregated frequency response system performing on the Enhanced Frequency Response (EFR) market. 6) The battery is operating as part of an aggregated system looking at competing in the day ahead market. This paper describes each use cases and developes a representative charge/discharge profile of these applications using MATLAB code and generates waveforms of battery charging and discharging for each use case over a year-long period in monthly intervals. Any time intervals where the battery was inactive were removed from the generation of the cycling patterns. Two statistical analysis methods (Haar transform and a pragmatic method) were used to condense the data into programmable steps for generating battery sweat testing and cycling model. These were then coded and used to generate year-long sweat testing of the different applications for use with degradation and financial analysis to look at business opportunities. This paper looks at the development of the charge and discharge profiles of these applications and defines a set of power application ā€œdriveā€ cycles which are published in excel alongside this paper for use by researchers longing at battery degradation

Geostrophic Circulation Patterns in the Northeastern Adriatic Sea and the Effects of Air-Sea Coupling: May-September 2003

    Get PDF
CTD data were collected weekly during 20 cruises from May to September 2003 over a 19 station grid in a coastal region of the northeastern Adriatic Sea as part of Project ADRICOSM. Relative geostrophic velocities indicated fine scale circulation patterns in in the area consisting of two pronounced circulation cells, of cyclonic and anti-cyclonic character, and that were present in the area for most of the investigated period.. These motions were induced primarily by spatial variations in the temperature field and may be strengthened during episodes of very strong northeasterly bora wind, when the investigated region is not heated (cooled) uniformly

    Lagrangian for the Majorana-Ahluwalia Construct

    Get PDF
The equations describing self/anti-self charge conjugate states, recently proposed by Ahluwalia, are re-written to covariant form. The corresponding Lagrangian for the neutral particle theory is proposed. From a group-theoretical viewpoint the construct is an example of the Nigam-Foldy-Bargmann-Wightman-Wigner-type quantum field theory based on the doubled representations of the extended Lorentz group. Relations with the Sachs-Schwebel and Ziino-Barut concepts of relativistic quantum theory are discussed.Comment: 10pp., REVTeX 3.0 fil

Efficacy and safety of lurbinectedin and doxorubicin in relapsed small cell lung cancer. Results from an expansion cohort of a phase I study

    Get PDF
Background A phase I study found remarkable activity and manageable toxicity for doxorubicin (bolus) plus lurbinectedin (1-h intravenous [i.v.] infusion) on Day 1 every three weeks (q3wk) as second-line therapy in relapsed small cell lung cancer (SCLC). An expansion cohort further evaluated this combination. Patients and methods Twenty-eight patients with relapsed SCLC after no more than one line of cytotoxic-containing chemotherapy were treated: 18 (64%) with sensitive disease (chemotherapy-free interval [CTFI] ā‰„90Ā days) and ten (36%) with resistant disease (CTFI <90Ā days; including six with refractory disease [CTFI ā‰¤30Ā days]). Results Ten patients showed confirmed response (overall response rate [ORR]ā€‰=ā€‰36%); median progression-free survival (PFS)ā€‰=ā€‰3.3Ā months; median overall survival (OS)ā€‰=ā€‰7.9Ā months. ORR was 50% in sensitive disease (median PFSā€‰=ā€‰5.7Ā months; median OSā€‰=ā€‰11.5Ā months) and 10% in resistant disease (median PFSā€‰=ā€‰1.3Ā months; median OSā€‰=ā€‰4.6Ā months). The main toxicity was transient and reversible myelosuppression. Treatment-related non-hematological events (fatigue, nausea, decreased appetite, vomiting, alopecia) were mostly mild or moderate. Conclusion Doxorubicin 40Ā mg/m(2) and lurbinectedin 2.0Ā mg/m(2) on Day 1 q3wk has shown noteworthy activity in relapsed SCLC and a manageable safety profile. The combination is being evaluated as second-line therapy for SCLC in an ongoing, randomized phase III trial. Clinical trial registration www.ClinicalTrials.gov code: NCT01970540. This paper has rather a pedagogical meaning. Surprising symmetries in the (j,0)āŠ•(0,j)(j,0)\oplus (0,j) Lorentz group representation space are analyzed. The aim is to draw reader's attention to the possibility of describing the particle world on the ground of the Dirac "doubles". Several tune points of the variational principle for this kind of equations are briefly discussed.Comment: REVTeX 3.0, 14p

Neutral Particles in Light of the Majorana-Ahluwalia Ideas

    Get PDF
The first part of this article (Sections I and II) presents oneself an overview of theory and phenomenology of truly neutral particles based on the papers of Majorana, Racah, Furry, McLennan and Case. The recent development of the construct, undertaken by Ahluwalia [{\it Mod. Phys. Lett. A}{\bf 9} (1994) 439; {\it Acta Phys. Polon. B}{\bf 25} (1994) 1267; Preprints LANL LA-UR-94-1252, LA-UR-94-3118], could be relevant for explanation of the present experimental situation in neutrino physics and astrophysics. In Section III the new fundamental wave equations for self/anti-self conjugate type-II spinors, proposed by Ahluwalia, are re-casted to covariant form. The connection with the Foldy-Nigam-Bargmann-Wightman- Wigner (FNBWW) type quantum field theory is found. The possible applications to the problem of neutrino oscillations are discussed.Comment: REVTEX file. 21pp. No figure

Microbial degradation of bis (2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate
