On the Rocks

On the Rocks is a one-woman poetry-theatre hybrid project about a woman’s quest for self-discovery. MERMAID, a landlocked prairie woman is shocked to learn that things aren’t exactly as they seem when GRANDMOTHER, on her deathbed, reveals that her “legs aren’t really legs.” So, MERMAID ventures to Eastern Canada to uncover the secrets of her maternal history. Her travels lead her to the water, where she dives into a whole new world of knowing. GRANDMOTHER and the poetry of Adrienne Rich serve as guideposts for MERMAID as she uncovers the origin myths of mermaids from around the world. She discovers that her own experiences mirror those of the women in these folk-stories and of women today; MERMAID discovers that she is not alone in her experiences navigating sexual assault. Using spoken word poetry, On the Rocks discusses hybridity, bisexuality, trauma, healing, depression, myth, and maternal lineage: the proverbial shoreline or liminal space. Using projections, shadow puppetry and live performance, On the Rocks creates a modern mythical world where MERMAID can finally find her fins

Verliebt – Verlobt – Verheiratet:Wandel der Hochzeit im 20. Jahrhundert

Die Entscheidung zu heiraten gilt heute als höchstpersönliche Angelegenheit des Brautpaares und Grundstein ihres individuellen Glücks. Doch wenn ein Paar heiratet, ist das nicht nur eine private Entscheidung. Die Brautleute sind immer auch Einflüssen aus Elternhaus, Kirche, Gesamtgesellschaft und Staat ausgesetzt und wirken ihrerseits mit ihrer Entscheidung auf diese Institutionen zurück. Änderungen im Heiratsverhalten stellen somit einen wichtigen Indikator für gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen dar. Um diese Entwicklungen erfassen und darstellen zu können, hat eine Gruppe von acht Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern des Studiums im Alter an der Universität Münster, die Geschichte der Hochzeit im 20. Jahrhundert im Vergleich der Hochzeitsgenerationen der Studierenden (Heirat 1960-75), ihrer Eltern (Heirat 1930-45) und Großeltern (Heirat 1900-1915) untersucht. Hierzu recherchierte die Gruppe in Archiven und Bibliotheken und wertete 586 für das Projekt entwickelte, standardisierte Fragebögen aus

Elektrochemische Enthalogenierung chlorierter Biphenyle, Dibenzofurane und Dibenzo-p-dioxine

Untersuchungen zur elektrolytischen Enthalogenierung von aromatischen Chlorkohlenwasserstoffen wurden durchgefuehrt. Das elektrochemische Entsorgungsprinzip sollte eine Anwendung im technischen Massstab ermoeglichen. Die untersuchten Proben entstammten Extrakten kontaminierter Boeden oder belasteten Sickeroelen. Zusaetzlich wurden aliphatische Verbindungen mit gleichem Erfolg enthalogenisiert. (VT)Investigations in the electrolytic dechlorination of aromatic chlorhydrocarbons were carried through. This eletrochemical disposal concept should be transferable to technical scale. The investigated samples stem from extracts of contaminated soils or polluted seepage oil. In addition, aliphatic compounds were dechlorinated with as much success. Binding Surfaces and Structural Phase Transformations

We have calculated binding surfaces for cla changes (along the Bain path) and changes of the atomic volume of metallic systems undergoing martensitic transformations. We find characteristic differences between the surfaces of nonmagnetic systems (with a close packed low temperature structure) and magnetic systems (with a less close packed low temperature structure). The ab initio calculations have been performed by using the augmented-spherical-wave method within the local-density approximation in the case of stoichiometrically ordered compounds and the Korringa-Kohn-Rostocker method together with the coherent-potential approximation in the case of disordered alloys
