Curvature-Matter Coupling Effects on Axial Gravitational Waves

In this paper, we investigate the propagation of axial gravitational waves in the background of the flat FRW universe in f(R,T)f(R,T) theory. The field equations are obtained for unperturbed as well as axially perturbed FRW metric. These field equations are solved simultaneously to obtain the unknown perturbation parameters. We find that the assumed perturbations can affect matter as well as four-velocity. Moreover, ignoring the material perturbations we explicitly obtain an expression for four-velocity. It is concluded that axial gravitational waves in the curvature-matter coupling background can produce cosmological rotation or have memory effect if the wave profile has a discontinuity at the wavefront.Comment: 17 pages, no figure, to appear in EPJ

Exponential time differencing methods and asymptotic behaviour of solutions of problems in ground water flow

We start this thesis with a numerical study of the convergence of the exponential time differencing (ETD) schemes and the semi-implicit Euler method for the Allen-Cahn equation and a reaction-convection-diffusion equation and also compare the accuracy and efficiency of these methods. Next, we solve the nonlinear convection-diffusion (green roof) model numerically using the ETD method and central difference approximation. This numerical solution is investigated for three different initial values for the saturation. Finally, we study travelling wave solutions and self-similar solutions for the green roof, in particular, for the two limiting cases of being close to a saturated region and a dry region. Travelling waves, in the form of fronts, are found for most realistic limiting values of saturation; travelling waves are also investigated for some limiting versions of the model. Self-similar solutions, valid for high or for low saturations, are additionally investigated

Through the Eyes of the Homeless

When reviewing the entire project from start to completion, I can honestly say, Through the Eyes of the Homeless is a play about ten women and their plight. It illustrates their dealings with everyday issues of hurt, disappointment, abuse, love, and hope. I believe the true impact of this play is the undeniable prayer for help and hope within each monologue. Despite the horrors that are unveiled and released through hidden secrets, the undertone of betterment is truly resonating. My own expectation for this play is simply to strike awareness and understanding in the eyes of the people. It is my objective to have each audience member leave the show with a completely different perspective on homelessness. Homelessness seems to be one of those taboo societal problems the world chooses to turn away from because of lack of awareness. I believe it is fear of the unknown that keeps us blind, deaf, and dumb about certain issues. After all is said and done, I am simply asking anyone who reads this play, watches it, or hears it to listen to each voice carefully and the message it conveys

Integrated Social-sector Macroeconometric Model for Pakistan

While the traditional neoclassical production model postulates that it is the physical inputs such as private capital, labour, land, and technology that are the key determinants of output and economic development, in recent years, however, the social sector variables are also considered to be critical, particularly for the long-run sustainable growth of the economy. If fact, what has been argued in the form of “new growth theories” is that social variables (e.g., education, health, knowledge, etc.) generate “positive externalities” and, thus, may facilitate and foster the process of economic growth and development. Recently, the World Bank, based on a broad cross-country study, found some very interesting results in the above context. According to the World Development Report (1991): about fifty percent of the factor productivity contribution to output growth comes not from traditional physical inputs (capital, labour and land) but is a residual factor.

The Need to Preserve: Challenges and Opportunities in Collecting the History of a Young University

Special Collections and University Archives are one of the main avenues of support for alumni, university foundations, and attracting new students. Special Collections demonstrate the level of importance the university places on its history within the community, making collecting, arranging, and preserving the history crucial to development. The task of collecting historical documentation can be a challenge for a young university. The challenges present opportunity for trained professional to use new and innovation methods to collect archival materials

Models of Collapsing and Expanding Cylindrical Source in f(R,T) Theory

We discuss the collapsing and expanding solutions of anisotropic charged cylinder in the context of f(R,T)f(R,T) theory (RR represents the Ricci scalar and TT denotes the trace of energy-momentum tensor). For this purpose, we take an auxiliary solution of Einstein-Maxwell field equations and evaluate expansion scalar whose negative values lead to collapse and positive values give expansion. For both cases, the behavior of density, pressure, anisotropic parameter as well as mass is explored and the effects of charge as well as model parameter on these quantities are examined. The energy conditions are found to be satisfied for both solutions.Comment: 29 pages, 22 figures, to appear in AHE
